In my current fort, I've had numerous cases of dwarves being beaten as punishment and dying of this. All of my fortress guards, sheriffs, and captains of the guard are unarmed and not described as being particularly strong.

The combat report shows that the killing blow is invariably a head shot; I find this to be "fun" in the DF sense of the word but somewhat illogical. A murderer gets thrown in jail for 200 days while disorderly conduct gets your brains punched out by the guard, who is also your friend, who subsequently tantrums because of your death (yes, this happened).

Just be glad the thing that happened to me didn't happen to you. One of my miners became sheriff right after a goblin ambush freaked everybody out and I had no jail. He killed 30 dwarves in a fort of about 70.

yeah, even wooden training weapons bash in skulls fairly regularly if the guard captain has any skill, but the chance of survival is much higher than giving him a metal weapon or something sharp.

Skulls seem pretty flimsy.

Wooden weapons and punches shouldn't be able to shatter people's brains in so regularly, especially considering that dwarves probably have crazy thick ones.

I wouldn't even be equipping wooden spears. That's likely to put an eye out. War hammers really are a better deal than people seem to think, especially the artifact ones. Your sheriff enjoys his artifact and can't even cripple a fly with a solid swat.

Your thread title sounds like a corny anime attack.

The right way to deal with dwarven justice is to give a spinal injury to the hammerer. I don't know if he will bite criminals near his bed, tough.
