I really don't know why some vegetarians consider animals to be equal, or greater than, humans. It just doesn't make sense to me.

We are omnivores. I think that killing animals for sustainance is quite justified. Omnivorous and carnivorous animals do it all the time.

Killing for sport or thrill is wrong in my mind.

Hmm, my thoughts are thus:

If I am hungry, and have no other source of sustenance, I would happily eat a cooked human corpse, however, I would not kill another human to eat them.

You would have to kill the human. You couldn't get much meat if they too are starving. Kill 'em early on I say!

According to Hamburgerfan, that is.

Such violent methods to get your delicious human flesh.

You could try alternative flesh products such as hufu.

There comes a time when you must take off the soft, furry slippers of a boy and put on the shoes of a man.
Unless of course they don't fit properly and your feet blister up like bubble wrap.
Oh ho ho, but don't try to return the shoes, because they won't take them back once you've worn them.
Especially if that fat pig Tony is at the desk.

equal or not, animals suffer. to prevent needless suffering is the apex of benevolence. i devour animals, cuz they're tasty and already dead, but i cannot bring myself to hurt a fly, literally.

my stance is that humans and minerals are equal, it just doen't make sense to me that some people think otherwise.

Yeah funny story, I used to work in a butcher shop and one of the meat cutters was talking about how cannibalism was more common in history than some people like to talk about, like the first settlers at Jamestown etc. When times are extra lean what else can you do?

In Jamestown a guy was executed after confessing to having killed, salted and eaten his pregnant wife.

And I want a job in a butcher shop... Sigh...

In my mind there are different levels of life which have different ways they should be treated:
0: Failure: Pathetic, defenseless animals like pandas. - Put it out of its bloody misery already.
1: Production: All mushrooms, plants, algae and other photsynthesis users. - Consume without thought or regret.
2a: Minute: Rabbit, Shrew, other small herbivores/omnivores. - Small amount of respect for survival traits, but consume anyway.
2b: Domestic: Cow, sheep, goat. - Eat.
3: Small predators: Cat, dog, etc. - Respect, rarely eat.
4: Large Herbivores: Deer, antelope. - Eat, but respect.
5: Large Carnivores: Wolf, wolverine, leopard. - Lots of respect, sort of a sport/trophy animal, but to my philosophy you have to kill it with your bare hands/trap that you built. Guns are a big no-no.
6: Massive Carnivores: Bear, lion, tiger. - Huge amount of respect. Same guidelines for large carnivores.
7: Massive Herbivores: Elephant, rhino etc. - Same as massive carnivores.
9: Apex Predator: Humans. - Do not eat. Hunting it for sport and trophies is alright, since its the same as you.
Sea creatures can also fit into these.

How is a dog a small predator yet a wolf a large carnivore? Have you ever seen a mastiff?

Because a dog is a predator, yet it is domestic.

Using guns to hunt does seem... unfair to me. Hardly a 'sport' if you sneak up on your prey from a hundred feet away and use a high-powered rifle.

Then again, killing for sport has always seemed wrong to me.
