I take a deep breath as I gaze down on my friend's corpse, the inhaling and exhaling accompanied by a disturbing rattling. I didn't really believe any of Samy's hallucinations, but they must have been serious, or real, to motivate him to kill himself. But the question was, did he kill himself? It seemed all but impossible. There was something not right with this, and I needed information, badly. Particularly about Vicky. If there was even a meager, infinitesimal chance that Vicky was back, it would definitely need following up on, and I knew just the person for it: Lockland, an old friend of mine. This guy could get into anything, locate anything, learn anything.

I walked to the phone and dialed his number.

The phone rung three times before getting picked up.
"Hello, Lockland here." said the calm voice on the other line.
"Hey, It''s John"
"John, Long time no see, though this isn't exactly seeing.

((Declares character change.))
I picked up the phone, drowsy, mind clouded by many thoughts.
"Hello, Lockland here." I said calmly.
A familiar voice spoke on the other side of the line.
"Hey, it's John."
"John, Long time no see, though this isn't exactly seeing."
"We need to cut this short, Samy is dead."
"Huh?" I spoke out, mind now alert, wondering what had transpired.
"His house was broken into and he was shot 3 times. Before that, he said he saw Vicky."
I held the phone in my hand, blankly looking out the window before responding.
"Well, what do you need me to do?"
"I need you to find information on Vicky, meet me back at Smoky Joe's on Tuesday."
Before I could respond, he hanged up.

((Back to John))
I hung up and pulled out a cigar on my way out. I took a moment to stand on the porch and smoke it. My mind was ablaze with thought. Who killed Samey, was Vickey really back, and if he was how. I finished the cigar and tossed it in a trash can.

((back to Lockland))
Samy was dead.
Fuck.
I supposed that made the job a freebie. Not that that cheap asshole could ever pay my fee, of course.
Vicky was dead. I wouldn't care if Vicky's name was in Samy's god damn murder note with a little picture of him pinned on the wall underneath it, the Vicky was deader than... a guy with 3 shots through the chest.
It was against my policy to do Goose chases, but if I couldn't find Vicky, I supposed that I might as well find whoever killed Samy.

And I would find whoever killed Samy.

I turned the key my front door. The entryway was dark as always. A treacherous staircase down to the barren hell of my home. I touched the doorknob to my home proper . . .

Shit. The handle came off. Even I can't believe how shitty my house is sometimes. The I called for the tenant, but he was out tonight, probably on business. Most likely, kind of business that made him nervous around cops like myself. I wasn't about to sleep out in the hall tonight, so I tried to slam the door in with my shoulder. Unlike everything else my apartment, it decided to stay shut.

I headed over to Samy's home. It was surrounded by various police cruisers, but I smooth talked my way inside. I really hoped it wasn't true. Samy was there, on the ground, three shots in his chest. The way his house was broken into was peculiar though. One of Samy's keys were missing, and the second of his two doors was the only one broken. Puzzled, I walked back into the rain, and called down a taxi. I took a trip down to Smokey Joe's to talk to the last people who may have saw Samy, especially the bartender.
