I just built a bunch of 1X1 restraint rooms, and now I got a ton of dwarves hanging out in the rooms and doorways of the rooms. Why are they doing this? There is no justice and there are no animals restrained. They have been designated as rooms, however.

This is just silly. Beyond all your dwarfs being into BDSM, I have no idea what is going on.

if that's the case then I think you got an asylum going.

As awesome as an asylum would be, all the ropes seem to be high quality. high quality cloth, high quality dyeing, high quality images.

Dwarves will hang out at anything that's designated as a room.

Dwarves can get pretty creepy. One of my guys liked Brimstone, adamantine, coffins, snow devils for they're rhythmic undulations, and cat's for they're aloofness.

If you defined a room from the chain, but didn't set them to be used by justice, then you have created a Zoo type room.  Dwarves will hang out at zoos, treating them as meeting rooms.

I've seen animals hanging around a restraint before, pretty sure it was set to justice. Not sure why.

Wouldn't justice ropes not work? I read on the wiki that only metal chains can be used for justice.
I guess making a room from a restraint that's not used by justice is the equivalent of making a room from a cage (ie it's a zoo). The dwarfs are waiting for you to bring in the exotic animals.

Ropes work too, but they can be broken more easily.

That reminds me, what would happen if you chained a max-stat guy with iron?
