See, I liked how the cascading alliance system worked this game. It gave me a massive challenge JUST as I rose to the zenith of power after smushing a bunch of useless squabbling minors. If that happened with cascading alliances all the time, I'd love it.

Unfortunately, Hindustan (whilst it was still Hindu) crushed my navy and I haven't had a chance to build it up again.

A united Middle-East sounds epic. Usually nothing happens there except single province changes. Can I recommend the Mamluks for extra awesome?

And is 1550-1579 alright with you or do you want a later date?

My goal was, roughly, to get the Khmer back to where it was in the early 13th century. It should be the dominant power in the Thai Peninsula that it was until every mofo started moving in on it's turf.

The position I started out in wasn't so bad. I was surrounded by nations that had my cores on them and none were allied with any of the really major powers. Ming was on it's way down (seriously, when I started out it had a FEW revolting provinces, then a few years in around half of them were revolting and Ming had 32k of peasants sitting on Nanjing), so I didn't really have to worry about them.

I crushed all the OPMs that were around and a few of the minor nations and then started work on Pegu and Taunga (the latter of which had used my wars to sneak attack quite a few of the surrounding nations and was looking to be a pretty bad foe later on, but was trying to suck up to me at this point in time). I got a really lucky "You gain cores on surrounding nations" event, which allowed me to declare war pretty much freely after I let my BB and WE cool down.

Within about fifteen years, I'd gotten the Khmer back to where they were pre-14th century simply through a surprise attack tactic of pretending to be friendly and then quickly striking whenever they went to war. It generally meant they lost a lot of allies, too, so I also broke up any troubling alliance chains.

I extended myself down the Malaysian peninsula, took down Malacca and claimed the centre of trade for my own. Unfortunately, Brunei got involved and, because of the fact I couldn't get my troops across to him and he couldn't get his across to me, I had to take the stability hit from switching to QFTNW and making a conquistador to find his other major provinces.

I quickly finished him off, created an explorer and used him to colonise the Andamans in the Bengal Bay. I let my BB calm down again, built up some infrastructure, sent my merchants off (and I was getting a LOT per year, enough to fill three or four CoTs) and then started clearing up all the little nations to my north. Unfortunately for me (and then Hindustan), one of them set off an alliance chain that led to Hindustan joining in.

They couldn't really get any troops to me, so they were transporting them via ship. I kept using my ships to spot them (I had a few at this point and they were great) and placing my troops where they were going to land. It allowed me to build up a pretty sizeable victory score. They eventually attacked and destroyed my ships, I decided to quickly end the war without having any provinces in Hindustan took and so selected "Convert Hindustan to Buddhism" in order to cripple them effectively. :p It seemed to work, actually. Despite their cores, they haven't directly attacked anyone since and seem way too focused on coverting all their provinces to Buddhism to do anything effective.

I managed to clear out the rest of the peninsula, released a few nations (Tibet being the main one) from Bihar's grip and placed them as my vassals in order to have a buffer between me and Hindustan.

I built up in my final few years, made good relations, marriages etc with my vassals and tried to intermarry with as many different nations as humanly possible. I think the nation is relatively stable now, even if it does have 10% revolt rate in a lot of provinces. I don't think it'd completely crash without some massive outside interference.

- Europe is in the middle of a massive war with (I think) maximum members on both sides. It's going to be a bad one, folks. :p
- Denmark owns Ireland.
- Hamburg is in Scandinavia.
- Finland is still alive.
- Burgundy is still alive.
- Castille looks well on it's way to forming Spain.
- Morocco's advance into Africa seems to have cut them out of the loop but allowed other nations (namely Tunisia) an easy entrance in.
- I doubt Russia will ever form.

Came across This the other day, a fun AAR as a the One province mallet mullet muppet map Whatever the "M" in OPM stands for.

It also has some interesting examples of exploiting the game mechanics, Like Machiavelli meets EUIII.

Use spies to fun patriots in as many provinces as possible when an empire is at war. Then, when the government collapses and the defect to you, vassalize them. Do this to everyone around you to form the perfect defense.

If a country is getting their arse handed to them with a siege in every province, join the bandwagon. If peace breaks out, siege them. they won't have an army and their guards will be seriously depleted. you can follow up with a quick assault.

I knew I should have vassalized Tunisia while I had the chance. Poor Morocco, I knew thee not well enough.

I was going to go and write up a more through and humorous AAR, with a slightly insane series of kings, but I'm unlikely to get around to it. I already wrote up what happened in the rest of the world. Here's the highlights of what I did:

Not much happened for a few years, other then me changing ideas to get some colonists. Castille and Portugal allied with each other at some point, and ineffectually fought with my eastern neighbors until they got tired of that, then turned on me. Tunisia was annexed by Algiers during this war.

They eventually ran out of manpower, and white peaced out. My war exhaustion never recovered, but it didn't bother me much. I then made an unprovoked DOW on Algiers, taking half their provinces. Tunisia revolted some time after that.

Once my colonies gave me access to the Mali, I annexed several provinces over two wars. I used minting to pay for forts, which apparently didn't nearly as much as they should have.

I received many missions to out-build the Ottoman navy.

Good job with Khmer, and wow, Ming just fell apart. Let's hope AI Khmer takes on the Imperial Remnant (aka, what's left of Ming) next. And Scandinavia looks like it's all kinds of messed up right now.

EDIT: Or well, you need a google docs account to access the save, which I apparently had anyhow. Still, maybe use something else next?

Jesus christ, Europe is so fucked up. Denmark controlling Ireland? Scotland... existing again? I apparently have lost some of my vassals, but gained two provinces in France, which is always nice.

EDIT 2: Denmark at war with 15 different countries? AI Burgundy still has giant-ass armies while at peace (170 gold and deficits...).

You should be getting colonists with QFTNW, unless you have penalties to it somehow. Check the amount of colonists you get yearly. But colonies are pretty expensive, mang. Change that National Idea to something else and expand first.

Oh, alright then. Playing with minors in DW is pretty much suicide anyhow.
