If I hadn't been a member of Somethingawful.com's forums, I never would have heard of this game, and my life would be much emptier than it is now.

How did you get introduced to DF? Especially considering that it's only been playable by the public since last autumn.

My brother was playing it over Christmas break... He's a goon, by the way, so I guess I indirectly heard about it from Something Awful- I imagine a good portion of Dwarf Fortress's publicity results from that site...

Back when I joined DF was everywhere. Couldn't enter a forum without seeing a DF related thread.

I read rec.games.roguelike.development on occasion; there was a post announcing DF when it was released.

Same here. I even made a LP thread, http://forums.taleworlds.net/index.php/topic,20893.0.html which got owned by the corrupted save bug. No one at the Taleworlds forums has killed as many dwarves as I have.

I saw Dwarf Fortress mentioned several times at RPGcodex forums. But the last bit that pushed me to check what the hell is that game everyone speaks about was a reference at the new IVAN forums.

For me, I found DF from a link to LCS from Home of The Underdogs in 2003ish. That site is slooooooow.
