Not really, but my dwarves did all charge out of the fort when the elves showed up, all their current jobs set to 'Eat'. They rushed to the Elves and were eating all their fresh fruit off the mules!   :eek:

Were they starving starving?  Maybe that's not a bug so much, though I don't remember what I actually coded.

I've seen this happen twice. I thought the dwarves were able to buy stuff directly from the caravans even before I could, so it didn't bother me. It seemed realistic, and it probably saved some of them from starving.

I didn't check if their accounts changed or if they traded anything else back to the elves, though. I just assumed so.

This happened to me just now, my dwarves were starving because the rivers had failed to flood this spring and summer, thus they had no farmland. I don't use floodgates because they always get bugged and don't drain out, which is exactly what happened to this fort when I went ahead and tried floodgates anyway. I was pissed at this fort anyway since my sheriff got mad, killed some people, destroyed a bridge, and my military just watched and did nothing cuz he was the sheriff. (He was on the bridge a few minutes after murdering a marksdwarf and a few pets in cold blood, happened to break the bridge just as my Manager was walking over it. They both drowned. All because we didn't have enough cages  

They all rushed the human caravans, leaving no food or ANYTHING at all to trade for when the caravan actually got to my trade depot. Which is weird, because don't they usually have cloth and stuff? But anyway, I let the bastards starve; until a cow blundered into the door that I'd forgotten to lock, and flooded the entire map with water from my bugged floodgate room.

I can guess why your floodgates aren't draining back out:  You've allowed your floods to reach back to the river, haven't you?  If you do that, it's considered to have a 'source', and will no longer receed.  You need to draw it out away from the river using a narrow one-square-wide channel, and ensure that it has no way of getting back.

and because it happened to me, and I think it is a bug.

6 dwarves on surface, no food avaliable. Caravan comes, some go into 'Starving' status. One by one they rush to Bactrians/Dromedaries/whatever and just take the food they are hauling and proceed to consume it.

Annoying since I actually want them to die.

The guards should at least attack them.


edit: forbidding the items in bactrians inventory screen doesnt seem to help

If this is a bug, it's one that should stay in.  Guards don't attack right now even if you seize their goods at the depot, so that's consistent for the time being.
