Epic Songs for an Epic Game
« on: January 19, 2011, 11:58:35 pm »

I want a list from you guys, a community agreement on songs that are epic and sound good during a Let's Play.

I've recently posted one of my new LPs playing "The Flight of the Valkyries" by Wagner.

If you guys have songs in mind please post them here and we'll make a list.  I'll even put the good choices in some of my LPs.  Here is my example:

Awesome song, especially for dramatic war scenes.

Makes things seem more like a ballet. Just picture you're Dwarves dancing around butchering cats and drinking booze.

Perfect for battles, or the moment you must collapse your fort, because Goblins are overrunning it.

You have a dead sexy voice. You should get a long matrix style coat.

Also, I'm going to need a second to get my manlyness back.

For Adventurer reclaimers/explorers:

It is raining, but at least that washes the blood off of your body. You see the site in the distance... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtLWUkAqQBM

My personal favorite from Two Steps from Hell would be "He who brings the Night": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ep5Ly6nfl9c

If you like TSH, you should check out Audiomachine and Immediate Music, they make Epic (that's with a capital 'E') music too.

This is from Immediate Music, "All Hell Breaks Loose" : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zndQCbXGM7A

This piece from Audiomachine would be good for when you're burying your head or seeing the fort go up in flames as the survivors make one desperate, final stand. Pretty much good aftermath music. "Gone forever": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-LasVQUP_s&feature=related

You could also check Newgrounds, they've some really nice music there.

I could recommend "The Staring Sun" (http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/239821) and also "Shallow Grave" (http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/160639) from there.

Hope your LP series turns out awesome!

I would actually recommend anything from Fairyland but this feels fairly epic to me "Ride with the Sun"  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0y9AJVfHgU

Highly Dwarf related:

Hall of the Mountain King by Apocalyptica

edit: the live version is better for the "Atmosphere" of Dwarf Fortress. Just imagine digging down with this playing.

I laugh at your puny excuses for epic music!
Okay, not really, but the TA soundtrack is pretty damn epic. And for that matter, everything Jeremy Soule has ever composed.

Dohoho, Hall of the Mountain King, was just about to link that :D.

Anyway, Two Steps from Hell: White Witch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0YDcQCOhZ4

Good for when those Goblins are marching to your fort.
