Prisoners released randomly?
« on: January 19, 2011, 11:38:17 pm »

i built goblin cages that my cage trap caught.  randomly they are getting released by an animal caretaker without my doing anything.  i didn't do anything and they have been built for a while and now suddenly this is happening.  if i was trying to trade them or release a different animal i would understand it but im not.  they are assigned to their cages but still the guy is coming and taking them into another cage and bringing them to animal stockpile, it wouldn't matter except that i didn't notice until he had gone and used all my spare cages and a few ambushes got past my traps and my military had to kill them

how do i keep my dwarf from releasing them?

I'm not certain I understand what's going on.  I don't wish to be mean, but complete sentences and punctuation can do wonders to improving the clarity of a post.  (Nobody else needs to comment on poor grammar though, it has been said.)

So, you have goblins in cages, and they are getting released?  Is that the issue?  Are there any other animals in the cages that they're in?  Are the built cages (b->j) or are they cages sitting in your animal stockpile?  What is your animal dissector's job when she releases something?  What does she release?

Are you trying to sell cages to the trader? Bringing a cage to the trader will dump animals that are inside the cage out into the world, and in the case of goblins or hostile wildlife, this can result in Fun.

i don't know how to say it clearer since its confusing to me aswell.  i built goblin cages that my cage trap caught.  randomly they are getting released by an animal caretaker without my doing anything.  i didn't do anything and they have been built for a while and now suddenly this is happening.  if i was trying to trade them or release a different animal i would understand it but im not.  they are assigned to their cages but still the guy is coming and taking them into another cage and bringing them to animal stockpile, it wouldn't matter except that i didn't notice until he had gone and used all my spare cages and a few ambushes got past my traps and my military had to kill them

That is very strange.  Smells like a bug, to me.

So your dwarf comes along and releases a goblin from a cage and then escorts it to your animal stockpile and puts it in a cage there?

How does this make you run out of cages?

not quite, he brings a cage puts the creature in the cage and carries the cage to the animal stockpile leaving the last one there.  i didnt notice it i'd notice the goblin in my stockpile and build the cage, i have since un built all the empty ones however i don't want it to continue

Well, I'm not really sure what to say.  I've never encountered this before.  I've built cages containing goblins in my "live fire training area" and nobody came to take the prisoners back to the animal stockpile as my mechanic linked them to a lever.  I'll have to test this out.

How best would you advise attempting to reproduce this problem?

i had 15-20 cages set up close to my pit that i drop them in, leaving them while my dumb dwarves try to figure out what equipment they are assigned and this happened idk why, or i could help you recreate and i have already "disposed" of the culprit
