Foul Automatons Prove Dominance Once Again
« on: January 19, 2011, 08:55:24 am »

A dark day is upon us. Soon the unspeakable machinations of this "Newton" a name now sullied by the thoughtless engineers at International Business Machines will conquer humanity at a contest once thought to be purely the domain of humanity. Yes friends, even the intellectual trivia men of Jeopardy.

The abomination takes the form of a hideous black monolith. In it's face it displays inscrutable etchings; some alien symbols no doubt mocking the folly that was its construction. Arrayed against it were two champions: the bard-spoken Jennings and the laurel draped Rutter. But the machine proved indefatigable. Only certain obscure categories prove able to halt the device's progress, no doubt due to the lingering laws of man which prevented the engineers from feeding all data into the automaton's black heart. No doubt they will use the million dollar purse to further it's insatiable thirst for the knowledge to enslave us.

Tremble humanity, tremble.

Here is some additional reading material, not hyper-linked as that would only further the machines' quest to absorb all informationit would seem they have placed the hyperlinks themselves:

This is just the first step of many of IT-Technicians gaining world dominance.

The second article was a good informational piece, until about halfway through 'til the end at which point it devolved into snortchokelaugh.

Which really should have been expected considering the font it's in.

"My personal epiphany on this subject came in 2004 when, as the result of an online discussion, I informally developed the software architecture that would be used in the first generation of super-intelligent computers. (See Generational Dynamics: The Singularity for a summary of the architecture.) Going through that process made the Singularity real to me, and I could see how it was likely to unfold."

Quote
When the "climategate" scandal broke last year, I did a search of the hacked East Anglian e-mail messages for the word "Singularity," and it doesn't appear once. So you have all these brilliant scientists working to predict climate change, and you would think that at least one of them would have asked the question of one another: "Hey, what about the Singularity?" But apparently it was never asked once. It must have been forbidden subject, since it conflicts with their own claims.

KOOOOOOOOK

People who are working to bring about the Singularity don't talk about it because they don't goddamn need to.  :P

You know what, no matter how much you want it, you're not gonna be on their side. Enjoy being subjugated along with the rest of us.

Pff, they can subjugate me all they want and I'll enjoy it.

Er, that wasn't supposed to sound...like that.

I'm just saying that they're the next generation and if it's time for us to go, if I'm on the losing team, then that's OK.  Cooperation is ideal but not a necessity.  May the best sophont win!

Come to think of it, computers would be better at seeing through tricky word play, due to the fact that they don't subjec themselves to context as much as we do. Another example of humans over thinking things.

In which case we outclever them with stuff that makes no sense out of context. We're good at that, just look at the out of context thread.

I'm not worried. That machine can probably kick my ass at Jeopardy, but I could still beat it at kickboxing.

I could still probably beat that machine when it comes to placing magnets in such a way as to disable you opponent.
