« on: January 19, 2011, 01:56:23 am »

Does anybody know any quotes (from famous people) that relate to DF? I need one for my poetry class.

Thanks for the quotes.
I've found these:

"He would make a lovely corpse"
     -Charles Dickens

"Write drunk; edit sober"
     -Ernest Hemingway

"I've just learned about his illness. Let's hope it's nothing trivial"
     -Irvin S. Cobb

Not very Dwarf Fortress related but I need to get working on this poem.
More quotes would be appreciated.

"I meant," said Ipslore bitterly, "what is there in this world that truly makes living worthwhile?"
Death thought about it.
"Cats," he said eventually. "Cats are nice."
- Terry Pratchett

Edit: Of COURSE Terry Pratchett!

Cats regard people as warmblooded furniture.

I think I'm going to use this: "There are some defeats more triumphant than victories".
It's perfect because my poem has to be based on this http://www.poetryfoundation.org/archive/poem.html?id=179895 so I'm going to write it from the perspective of a Dwarf traveling to my favorite fort, which as you would assume died (triumphantly).

Celia: He has an accent.
Haley: He likes beer.

And originally from the Bhagavad Gita (Ch.11 Verse 32)

Although I can't find the specific translation that Oppenheimer used.

I'm pretty sure the actual quote is, "Now, I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds." The full line from the Bhagavad Gita he was recalling is: "If the radiance of a thousand suns were to burst at once into the sky, that would be like the splendor of the mighty one... Now, I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds."
