I propose that henceforth, no matter what the current time is wherever one might be, the following: Whenever any point in time, including vague ones such as "noonish" and "happy hour", is mentioned on the internet, it will be based on Greenwich Mean Time. Naturally, this does not extend to documentary or relative times, so one does not need to convert references contained within quotes or convert such concepts as "bedtime" or "dinnertime".

This has the immediate advantage of eliminating the hassle and confusion of relative time when planning international events. It also prevents a single person in an odd time zone from off-handedly referring to their own time and forcing everyone else, by convention to try to figure out what time that means. Instead, anyone with an inconvenient time zone will convert theirs to the standard time, and soon become accustomed to the conversion and not find it difficult.

In addition, it increases anonymity; one never needs to say what time zone you are in.

GMT was selected for this standard because of the weight of tradition it carries; it certainly provides no extra benifit for myself. I would estimate, though, that a large portion of the internet-using world is within one or two hours of GMT as it is.

For the sake of completeness, this also applies to relativistic time dilation. If you are somehow experiencing ten seconds for every one second in the Greenwich reference frame, you must slow your clock to one-tenth the speed and list your time as such.

We have spent time known by human life in planning a metric clock, yet your unfounded phobias of the number 13 and 66 seem to make you turn away from our holy logic. As such, we are filling out the paperwork and making the required sacrifices to select elder gods to lodge a formal complaint.

It's kinda silly. The reason the internet works as a community is that people are at different times. It makes no sense to give a virtual place it's own time zone. Perhaps if it were based on computer cycles.

Also, I don't believe in GMT. I think it's a conspiracy thought up by the Africans. Because they must be hiding something.

If anyone's up to the task, if you understand the scripting style of Stylish and SMF's coding, we can always attach a GMT clock next to the posts and etc. where we normally have our regular timestamp/time zones up. I have yet to see any Stylish scripts set for these kinds of forums, why not start one? All you need to do is have the addon and install the script and you're set. Simple enough.
