Fey Armorsmith won't claim a workshop..

So I have an Armorsmith, the only other things he has skills in are plant gathering and engraving (and neither is as high as armorsmithing), I have both a regular metalsmith's forge and a magma forge as well as magma smelters and all that.. There is clear access to both (heck the metalsmith forge is right next to him) and yet he won't claim any workshop.. Is it a bug or am I missing something?

Since he's also an engraver, he quite possibly wants a craftsdwarf's mason's workshop. Engraving, and mining give moods as well, both the former needing a craftsdwarves' workshop, the latter needing a mason's workshop

I have mason workshops as well (several.. In fact).

That's odd..
If you (t) over your forges, and your mason's workshops, are their building materials (top of the list) forbidden, by any chance?
This prevents workshops from working.

(checking..) Nope, none of them are (in fact other people have been using them, well aside from the regular forge).

Heh, I'm running out of ideas here. It just might be a bug then.

Hmm... Is there still enough magma below your magma forge?
Have you tried building a brand new forge, magma forge and mason's workshop?

And sorry for having to ask this: Did you unpause the game after getting the fey mood message?

Built all new workshops and still no luck, its all 7/7 magma under them (and yes, I unpaused, no worries asking, seems like something I'd do).

Hmmm.. I have tried everything I can come up with..

You mentioned your normal forge is no longer used. Is that one behind locked doors accidentally?

For the record, Engravers don't use mason's workshops - they use Craftsdwarf's workshops.

Had one of those too, old'ish fort, had most of the workshops somewhere or another (and most were right next to the guy, built them special just in case there was some pathing issue.

Poor fella.. Just couldn't bring himself to claim a shop.

Smith shops don't have any walls that can block access. Was there any burrow restrictions involved?
