RE Antediluvian diablerie and other things, for the lore-savvy:

Doesn't VTM lore establish, in some sense, a gradual decline in vampirism in the world?  There's a limited number of generation N vampires (esp. since Cain isn't visibly siring hordes of new 2s), who can only sire gen N+1.  They slowly die out (over millenia), not all to diablerie (which we'll ignore since we still get the same number of gen N vampires, right?).  This leaves only N+1 and weaker.  In VTM:B, IIRC we learn from the beach bums (:P) that the weakest generation can't reproduce.  All this suggests vampires will eventually disappear, provided Cain continues twiddling his thumbs or playing Halo or whatever he's doing.  I'm curious how the lore approaches that.

iirc the vampires were eventually doomed to die off due to impotency, but that fit in with the whole "End of the World!... Tomorrow!" theme old WoD had going.

The blood potency thing of old world WoD isn't actually unique either. There are a couple theories going that mankind's bloodline similarly used to be stronger when there were fewer people in the world. As human population increased, the bloodlines diluted, people didn't live as long, weren't as hale, ect....

You're still talking about fiction, right?

This game takes the merit of being one of the few games I played after turning 18 that actualy put some fear on me. Not the whole game of course, but those crawling/running things created by that tzimisce that breathe really fast while they run at you. Even more then that, the snuff tape with them chasing a woman inside that house, I was wearing a headset during it, and her screams by the end of the tape get louder and more painful, they sound genuinely real and scary.

Going? Last century, maybe, but that certainly doesn't sound like anything modern biology would be taking seriously.

Actualy its reality points towards the other way. The idea that ancient people lived longer and were overall stronger and just better has been debunked by records of equally ancient times. Only texts that are religious or tied to myths tell of people living far longer then human beings are currently capable of. From all evidence we have we can easily conclude that we now live considerably longer and have far better health then we did, say, hudreds and thousands of years ago, and we're still improving over time.

It didn't even work like that for the WoD humans, as far as I know.
Anyway we can't really argue about lore inconsistencies over Bloodlines, because of gameplay and history segregation. Juts look at your character, he seems to start as a low gen, puny vampire, but by the end of the game he's so massively powerful that nothing can touch him, literally if you have celerity, outrunning bullets is fun.

One fan theory is that Cain used his Cain powers to raise the protagonist's generation tier. Or maybe it was all those Sabbat I casually diablerized while assaulting their stronghold. Hey, I had to refill my blood pool somehow. :P

Yeah, I played the crap out of this game way back.
Drop from rafters onto a human to feed while stealthy- 8)
Be weird guy off to the side until one separates from the herd- 8)
Beat the crap out of various things while going super fast-  8)
Sneak through buildings past oblivious humans while breaking stuff- 8)
Shooting while super fast and racing your bullets to the target and hitting him with a severed limb first-  8)

Very awesome game, and yes, play it with the patches.

Also, I went Malkavian my first time through and I agree that it should be played for your second character. All of the choices are good, other than that. Nosferatu are fun to play too, but lots more obfuscation.

For what it's worth, the vamps in charge do seem pretty surprised with how powerful you are.

Seeing this thread got me playing it again!  Venture this time.  Previously did a Tremere first run and a partial malkavian.

I'm playing through Malkavian. My 2 previous partial playthroughs were Nosferatu and Malkavian. This is the first time I made it to the massive sewer system under Hollywood. I keep thinking of this and laughing.
...which I can only assume are some kind of ancient indian sewers.

Where's a good digital place to get this that'll work with the patches?
