I usually name two after my parents. And then arrange incredibly unfortunte accidents for them.

Sure do! I had an entire fort with people named after my livejournal friends plus myself

I usually name them all after my friends and pets, and then start making up names when I run out of those (Unfortunately, quite quickly). Recently I've just been naming them random things.

Although, it is quite enjoyable when you can see the brutal deaths your dwarf-friends suffer.

I name my dwarves after MSPA characters, but only after they've proven to have their personalities.

I name me dorfs after myself(manager etc.), me mom(farmer/soapmaker), and some guys I know from school. Guess which two were the first casualties in my latest fortress?

I don't... I might start. I label all the new migrants as cannon fodder, and the others have other labels. Hmm. Maybe my bookkeep or something.

Also, no, I don't. I let them keep their own names.

Just the first few, I name one after my parents, my fiancee, my brother, myself and my two dogs.

After those (three women, four men) are named I don't generally name any more.


So the next question, who here gets more attached to their 'named' dwarves (assuming all aren't named)? I know I do, I do everything in my power to ensure that my named people have both interesting dwarf lives and survive (I generally put myself and my fiancee in charge of the military, my parents in charge of production (metal/stone/etc) and my brother as a sort of manager (bookkeeper, broker and.. Well.. Manager).

Well, it's not like I know Dr. Gregory House in real life, him being a fictional character, but I still name my embarked chief medical dwarf after him.

I've grown fond of serial numbers. I like to pretend that by the time a dwarf becomes legendary enough to earn their name back they've completely forgotten them. All praise 001 and his leadership.
