Dealey Plaza, Dallas, TX
Texas School Book Depository, 5th floor.

You arrive in the Texas School Book Depository.  Going up to the sixth floor, you quickly locate the man known as Lee Harvey Oswald.  You sneak up behind him, punch him in the face, take his rifle, and punch him in the face again.  He falls over, unconscious.  A couple minutes later, JFK's motorcade arrives in Dealey Plaza...and he gets shot in the head anyway.

At about that time, someone walks up behind you.  You turn around.  The man is wearing an odd uniform: police officer-like, but futuristic-looking.  He starts talking.  "Officer Roberts of the Temporal Police Force.  Listen, I know you're a rookie.  First one I've seen who hasn't just tried to kill Hitler, though.  Okay.  Consider this a warning: don't utterly mess up the time stream.  We can't allow that to happen.  Take this book, it will tell you the temporal laws.  Also, please, please don't attack our agent on the grassy knoll.  We'll never be able to replace a sniper like him."

You stare.  Roberts is armed with some sort of...handgun?  You think you might be able to take him out in a fight, but it probably isn't the best idea.

You read the book.  There are three pages of general rules (don't touch anything, don't do anything, don't take anything, don't kill anyone, don't do this, don't do that, don't eat, don't sleep, don't steal, don't lie, don't talk, don't disobey the police).  The rest of the book is about the many, many methods of stopping Hitler and how they're not allowed.

Wow.  These rules suck.
