What's wrong with using magma? That's almost always the easiest method.
I have issues channeling it properly to do that method. I end up flooding the fortress with magma.

because the difference between upper and lower is amount to it involving DF, or not.
there was at one time a board called various nonsense or VN that became what is now the lower board, and it was so bad toady nuked it off the site, the lower board still have a bit if radiation to which you can decern a upper from a lower forumite... mosty by the glowing.
