Tame Alligator Missing All Body Parts...
« on: March 28, 2008, 05:46:00 pm »

I've noticed that all of the tame crocodiles and alligators that I've gotten from the elves have began to mysteriously get damaged internal organs.  In one severe case, I have an alligator that appears to be missing ALL of its body parts.  This includes its internal organs.  The climate my fort is in never freezes, so I don't really think this is cold damage.

Elves REALLY love animals.

I should probably mention that I've had them for a couple years - they didn't come with the injuries, I don't believe.

On a more positive note, I just had my first giant tiger cub born at my fort ^^

Were they still alive sans organs and body parts?

Were they missing upper/lower bodies (or both)?

Did you have undead pets? (well, apparently, depending on your definition of "undead" -- I would call anything still alive while missing all of its internal organs undead)

Either way, I'm gonna say you should call this epic, sic them on the goblins, and never look back. Look at it this way--no body parts means nothing to be injured.

I found something similar when I went to set up my zoo. Turns out all the animals I bought from the elves have damaged internal organs. Damned elves.

Ah well, I did get one male and one female grizzly bear. Time to start my organic bear factory.

Were there any squares bordering your fort that were cold where the cold could slip in from the side?  I don't know any other way for random injuries to occur unless they've been slipping out to wrestle macaques or something.  And yeah, does missing all of its body parts mean it was missing a head or something?  If it's still alive the problem is more serious.

It's still alive, and by all body parts, I mean ALL, including head, limbs, upper body, lower body, ect.  I have no idea if I'm bordering any cold biomes, though none of the local pools ever freeze.  Also, there's not far for it to roam since there are walls all over to keep out ambushes.

I've also noticed that the condition now seems to affect the saltwater crocodile as well, along with another of the alligators.  Might be interesing to note that the nervous system organs still show up as dark yellow.

So... what you're saying is that you've got a zombie epidemic on your hands?

Zombie epidemic? No no no. Sounds to me like it's a GHOST epidemic. I'm sure ghost alligator defenses would make a goblin think more than once, if they do indeed think, though the whole chaining process would be a bit hazy.

Well, ghosts can carry rattling chains, so why not just hook the furniture-chain up to one of those?

I'd eventually like to have a slew of guard bears station around my fortress. A bear-centric toy and food industry is tempting, but nah.

Of course, in the mean time they're serving as a zoo exhibit/goblin blender. Just set the bears on "frappe" and let your gobbo prisoners loose directly adjacent. It's a messy, messy way to go but so far none of the goblins have complained.

Maybe Toady can add in the option to make a arena.

Where you can let animals and goblins fight it out and people can watch.

Something like the gladiator games in rome.

there would need to be a "Pit" Area, and then around it seats.

Edit:

2 diffrent "Zones/Rooms"

1 for the area which things fight in, the other being the place where spectators can watch from.

These 2 rooms or zones should be connectable.
