Wells- I have built a well over one square of water, but it says it is dry.

Depot- what is the effect of having multiple depots?

Is there a hole beneath the well?

None. Except maybe taht merchants have more depots to choose from (which might be a bad thing since you'll want the depot as close to your stockpiles as possible)

one square? is it full-up, as in 7/7 or water? if not try channelling a resivour out and filling that up to 4/7 or 5/7 and then placing a well down.

and merchants only got to one depot, afaik :)

1.  If you built it over a brook, you have to channel out the tile underneath still.  Other than that, make sure it is channeled underneath.

2.  They will always go to the oldest depot.  So, you can have a hundred depots (for what reason I don't know, maybe to increase fortress value?) and they will always go to the first one that was built.
