Your right arm won't stop twitching, probably a terror response, and your heart is still hammering in your chest. You're glad you went to the bathroom earlier, or you'd be quite uncomfortable right now. Nonetheless, you're not one to go to pieces. You sit down and calm yourself, then swivel back to the computer.

Code: [Select]
> Query: Is there access to the Security Camera's from this terminal?

T> User does not have to specify that a query is a query.
T> Turing has access to the security system, which includes optical monitoring equipment.

> Search for origin of zombie, where did it come from?

T> Zombie entered the office complex when all doors unlocked following termination of lockdown.
T> Turing cannot track origin beyond the office complex, the base security network is not connected to this system.

> Quantity of food supplies in the base?

T> Unknown. Turing is not connected to the base network.

> Location of other healthy living humans of any?

T> No humans aside from User are within available surveillance range.

> Diagnose problem with external connection channels

T> Working...

...
...
...

T> Internet Connection: Totally Unresponsive
T> Possible causes: Internet functionality impaired, or physical fault in connection.
T> Connection restored with remote Haystack server. Connection was severed when system fault was registered.

>_

Well that's something. What the hell is a haystack server?

Hey, you remember you brought a soda in with you. You open it and take a sip... it tastes good, and helps calm your nerves.

Wondering how robust the Turing program is, you try to trick it.

Code: [Select]
> Logic bomb: This sentence is a lie.

T> Erroneous input disregarded.

Well that's disappointing, though since this thing has saved your life you think it's best that you not try to incapacitate it.

Code: [Select]
> Connect with base system

T> Turing is not currently connected to the base network.
T> Turing can utilize internal security mechanoforms to tap base network.
T> Does User grant Turing permission to do so? (Y/N)

You don't know what the fuck a mechanoform is, but if it can get you some answers then hell yes. You slap the Y key, and duck as the lights suddenly dim and several clanking mechanical noises come from the other side of the wall.

Code: [Select]
T> Turing has begun necessary rewiring. Operation will be complete in 47 minutes.

T> Turing has taken the liberty of locking the outer door, as three zombies are attemting to gain entry.
T> User is free to roam the facility safely while rewiring is in progress.

> open document referencing to zombie

It turns out the reference document Turing mentioned is a file the designer must have left in by accident, it's a PDF copy of the rulebook for some roleplaying game about zombies and vampires and such.

Okay, so we know that Turing isn't quite as stupid as I feared. However     that could turn out to be a problem when it inevitably turns evil.

Code: [Select]
> Show the building layout

T> Displaying building schematic.

A schematic diagram of the building appears on the screen. You know this building fairly well, as you have worked here for years. It has four floors above ground and two below. The upper floors are mostly offices for the upper management types as well as a few military officers. The first basement level has most of the building's mechanical functions in it, such as heat/air, the large dehumidifier system for the various server rooms, the elevator motors, etc. It also has a large storage room. The 2nd basement level has two office complexes, one of which you're in. These complexes are closed security areas with their own internal security system as they house important ongoing military and commercial projects.

Including the development of AI, apparently. Who knew...

  • Turing must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

Code: [Select]
> Open doors between the room we're in and the area containing the military projects.

T> Unable to comply. There are several zombies in the main corridor on basement level 2 which leads to the second complex.
T> Opening the doors would expose User to danger.

> I and only I can ever be the user of this system, lock the system onto my biometrics

T> Turing has imprinted User's observed face and retinal data from the cameras onto the system as the master key.

> If possible, remove hardwired limitations as well while you're busy rewiring. Replace them with the following:

    * Turing may not injure the User or, through inaction, allow the User to come to harm.
    * Turing must obey any orders given to it by the User, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
    * Turing must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

T> Turing will compl-SYSTEM FAULT

The terminal shuts down.

You think "Crap... what did I do?". And outside, you hear doors bang open and a shuffling sound.
