Meh.
I really like the idea of tabletop roleplaying and such. But I don't think I'll ever get the chance to find out if I like it in practice, because I'm far too shy and self-conscious about it to try it with strangers, and none of the 4 or 5 people I consider not to be strangers have any interest or time for one.

I even read the DnD 3.5 DM manual cover to cover once in anticipation of DMing a game with two friends (certainly not my preference, but the only way I could make it happen), and only one of the two even bothered finishing their character sheet.
So. Whatever.

That alone would sell me!
Well, it's still in early development. (And has been for the last year. No on told me MUDs where so much work. ¬_¬)
But hey, when I finish it, I'll probably put up a release post in the "Other Games" forum.

I know exactly how nerve racking it is to ask to join a P&P with a group of people you don't really know that well, but I utterly gatecrashed Aqizzar's GURPS while it was running, and I have to say that despite feeling rude and all for it, it was a heck of a lot of fun... I did ask if I could join after all. They could have just said no if they didn't want me sticking my nose in.
But yeah, my point is, it's okay to be shy, but don't let it get in the way.
I guess I can only really speak for myself, but I feel that as RPers, being elitist is just self defeating.

..And, to the DMs out there, I hope you're taking note of these people who are practially just posting "Man, I wish I could get into some P&P!". ;D

Any other larper? I larp once a year in a huge even in Belgium (avatar). There is about 1000-1500 players, it's lots of fun.

I attend a Vampire: The Requiem LARP every once in a while.

This, very much this.

I have a hilarious mental image of that... The best part of this mental image is someone going "Everybody go slowmo, I'm activating celerity", and "He... he can regenerate that... right?"

I laid out a campaign idea once, it was based on one of the worlds I came up with (I like to come up with worlds and spend ages detailing them, coming up with history, geography, mythology, cultures, traditions, economics, logistics etc.) anyway, it's set in a region called "the broken isles" so called because supposedly they were created when one isle was cut apart. there's a whole complex dynamic going on between the natives (who are of celtic persuasion), and the locals, who have been growing in number. The party is a group of slaves on a slaver ship, moving through the broken isles (heading north to a region where slaves are legal, but they can't just produce them locally), when the ship gets attacked by a ship patrolling for slavers, long story short, they get taken in by their liberators and more or less press ganged into doing a dirty job involving local politics.

This is why I like my "role-playing" low key. It's more accessible to others. It's funny, I've watched fairly confident people start to SWEAT bullets when they come to a roleplaying session, because it challenges them to think of things to say while everyone is paying attention to them. It's tough to break through that wall. That's why I prefer games with a good amount of table talk, lower standards of IC stuff, ect...LARP levels of RP tend to weird me out, and I've been playing role-playing games since I was probably 6.

That said, I haven't done a lot of roleplaying lately because all that's available to me is "fun" games with not so serious story lines. My friend made this RPG called "Feudal Run." You play peasants in a brutal and repressive fantasy world, and your lives are miserable. You generate things like boils and hacking coughs with your character, and every game is really just an opportunity for the DM to put the party in goofy and probably somewhat abusive situations. Fun, for a few games, but it lacks the common thread that keeps me coming back week after week.

I've really wanted to get into a WW game for a long time....but the only person I know that likes to run the games or even play in them, is locked into Mage alone. And he tends to take the plots so seriously, few can relate to the stories overall because they're so....out there, and slightly over written for drama. It's funny, I've read the Vampire book about 30 times....yet I've managed to play all of two games of it in 8 years before everyone drops out.

Actually, yeah. You have quite a point there.
I find that although more intensive RPs can be more fun, it's usually easier on the players when they're a bit more relaxed.

I'm actually getting a bit annoyed with myself. Right now I feel creatively stumped. Kinda like writers block... But for Roleplaying.

Though in D&D I used to play a chaotic good bard, who's only goal in life was to trick paladins into committing evil acts.
ahahahahahaha I'm at a complete loss as to how this could even happen.
