I actually want this. I feel bad for my lonely character. I wonder if this would be added to arena though since it does use the same keys and such from adventurer.

Well it would imply that I keep one guy alive long enough to 'Stab thy wench with thou mannly scepter', and then live for another nine months, and the temptation of seeing how high a cliff I can fall off and survive is so great.

This is why DF players themselves are an entry in DF's "nightmare fuel" page on TVTropes.

Also, I believe this would be great, after a conversation/relationship overhaul.

The class of spouse you go after should have an effect. After all, the king probably doesn't want to marry off his bride to some dirt-stained peasant who just wandered in off the fields. Slay the Plains Titan BoatPants The Marsh of Frogs, however...

... and you're a crazy, blood-stained peasant just back from marching through a horrid monster's entrails, who must be sent off on more and more dangerous tasks lest you get bored and start noticing that if all the king's soldiers couldn't kill that Titan, and you could, that...

...and you will have finished your taining. You are now ready to dispatch the guards protecting the merry princess and kidnap her for your own, locking her away in the dungeon to the southeast in the hills of eternity.

Here are some quotes from the dev page:
Quote
RELATIONSHIPS ARC: You should be able to take a spouse, make a household, and create playable heirs as an adventurer.
Quote
AFFILIATION ARC: You should be able to rise to the top of an entity (civilization, town, etc.) in adventure mode. While the full set of responsibilities that would entail will have to wait, it should at least be possible to attain this status for the first version. You should be able to do things for individuals. This could earn you favors from sleeping in their home and food gifts all the way to a marriage offer.
Quote
PowerGoal20, SETTLING DOWN, (Future): After proving yourself in battle, you accept a gift and the hand of your spouse.

Might be a few more in there, but that's what I could find easily.
*Is looking forward to playable heirs.  Not to mention becoming ruler of a civilization.*

Although, I wonder how the ethics would be like should this be made. So far, my guess is something like this

While talking about love/romances...

The companions in adventure mode might experience these with each other too.

This could lead to things like companions "settling down" and leaving the group because of marriage/child/family, jealousy, friendships, defending those who the companion likes / cares about, enrage when loved one or good friend dies, etc.

In the latest DF Talk Toady talked about implementing adventure mode long-term waiting, so you could just sit in a cottage for nine months.

I wonder if pregnancy wil show in the same way as in fortress mode (ie, not at all)?

You slash the Goblin in the right upper leg, tearing the skin!
The Goblin stabs you in the upper body, but the attack is deflected by your bronze mail shirt!
You have given birth to a boy.
You slash the Goblin in the lower body, tearing the skin and bruising the muscle!
