I'm building a giant plaza above the ground.

In which a small town shall be built.

I misread this and thought you were building a giant pizza.  I know what I'm doing!  The cheese will be orthoclase floors, pepperoni will be hematite blocks, sauce will be bauxite below the cheese.  Mushrooms will be obsidian and gneiss, and anchovies will be steel.  The crust...  Hmm... Wood, I guess.  And the trade depot will be at the center!

Howzabout using magma for sauce?
Or blood?

Ok here's my idea. Probably been done before but I'll write it down anyway.
1. Find an embark that has a huge mountain surrounded by flatland. I found one with flatland on 2 edges once, but with perfectworld or some parameter tweaking one can probably get something like this.
2. Mine away the ground level of the mountain and put a single support in the middle (next to the forts entrance).
3. Whenever a siege comes collapse the whole mountain on them.
4. Dig away the new ground layer again and repeat from 3. until the mountain is gone.
5. Once you're done build a megaconstruction on the now flat embark with all the stone from the mountain.
