Would Starting a Fort in Year 1 Change much?
« on: January 13, 2011, 08:28:22 pm »

Alright, so I was thinking about starting a fort at the beginning of time.

-Would less migrants come?
-More goblins in seiges, ambushes/etc or less?

I do know more megabeasts would be in worldgen.
But, would a great deal of gameplay be changed by starting in year 1?

No erosion for one. So lots of steep cliffs.

And I imagine there'll be little civilization sprawl.

Unless you cheat, you can't start before year 50 though.

I generate worlds that start at year 5 on a regular basis, without modding text files etc. It's perfectly possible without cheating.

There's no cheating necessary; just generate a world using the advanced parameters, and set the end year to 1.

Very little history. As in, next to nothing. Prepare to have EVERY engraving and statue about Urist making cheese.

But, don't we have that happen anyway?

Centration. Similar to Spacestation 13, but in 3D and first-person. Sounds damn awesome.

Nah, normally those art pieces are alternated with images of dwarves and humans getting the shit kicked out of them by whatever megabeasts rolled through the area in the past. At least in my forts. Never any elves. Oh, and one fort has no less than 30 engravings of the same goblin being torn asunder by one of the 70 weapon traps.

In 31.18 , civs sprawl out so if you start in year 2, civs will have less varieties in trade goods and in rare case, equipment. Also if you didnt mod mega beasts, they'd mostly spawn as babies.
