While this certainly isn't as awesome as a gigant spike of adamantine it's probably not a very common thing.

I was surveying the terrain before an actual embark so I selected a rather large area, which I would then reclaim if it turns out viable. DF generated this map for a rather long while and had a crashing cavern info at the beginning. Framerate is lower than expected.

Apparently the whole monolith is semi-molten rock. Which is a shame because I'd carve it into the most awesome fort ever.

Playing on the 7.0 lazy newb pack on a lazy newb world, on the mayday tileset.

Since the magma is flowing down the monolith I'm guessing the whole land will be immolated soon. Interestingly even though I kept the game running (at a decent framerate) for about three minutes the lava didn't manage to hit the bottom yet.

Quickly dig out a small area underground and move everything you can to a quantum stockpile, then wall off the entrance. YOU MUST LIVE UNDER THE MAGMA SEA!

Hmm. Any giant obsidian spires?
There was a magma mountain before, I think.

No obsidian spires, just a 2400-high monolith of semi-molten rock. No way to obsidianize it either, as far as I see.
