I am making my first real adventurer and need some help. A little background:
I was making a fortress, doing well (probably too well). A human caravan came in summer of year 2. Along with it came a lovely invasion of about 25 goblin lashers. I've never seen so many goblins so early, and I was totally unprepared. My undertrained and underequipped army was wiped out without killing any goblins, and my fort collapsed.
I tried a reclaim after reading on the wiki that invaders will not be hostile to reclaiming dwarfs. Wrong. My guys died within minutes. I did notice that the human caravan (just a merchant and two soldiers) was still around.
Anyway, my plan is to have my adventurer come in and wreak some havoc so I can reclaim safely. It's a very nice fort, and due to RL time restrictions, I don't want to redo the whole thing.
The problem is that I suck at adventure. I've made a few guys, and as soon as I think I am doing well, I randomly get a collapsed lung or such from a sucker-punching rogue chief and quickly die.
I am at work now, but at home I have a 10,000 loop macro cycle running with macros and autohotkey (cheesy, I know), knapping and throwing stones, so I plan to come home to a super-strong, super-fast legendary thrower with a bag full of very sharp rocks. He's a skilled axeman, armor user, and shield user.
What would be the best way to train and gear up my guy for such a huge battle, and what would be the best way to fight it? Sneak with ranged weapons? Tank it? Bring an army? I am considering creating another macro loop when I get home to get a legendary sneak.
Help! My dorfs want their fort back.
