Issues with a demon king...
« on: January 13, 2011, 12:29:23 am »

I've got a demon king that seems a bit impossible to kill, brute force fails, assassination fails, booze-bombs fail. His only kills are my poor adventurers, he dodges damn near everything, I don't even get a guaranteed hit when he's asleep! All attacks that he doesn't dodge miss or are deflected by his clothing...

So, suggestions? I run deon's mod.

Strangle him while he is asleep ?
As I stated, I can't touch him even if he's asleep. He still freaking dodges.

I'm picturing this in my head and I'm laughing.

Can you start a fire next to him?

You could always train up your throw and throw rocks at him until his bones are all broken.....

Or get like 19 companions and make him attack, so your companions will all mob him and cut his legs off.

That is what the beer bomb was supposed to do...

If he follows you and can't fly try baiting him to a ledge and throwing crap at him until he dodged off it.

He can't detect you if you are in stealth more than 3 tiles away from him. This is true even if you suck at ambushing and he is a great spotter. Carry lots of ammunition to throw, or stand on a source of rocks.

Demon lords start with rank 14 (Grand Master) in wrestling, biting, punching, kicking, fighter, archer, dodging, and observer. Perhaps worldgen battles and CAN_LEARN allow them to gain even more experience. They are tougher than the fort mode demons, who are rank 10. All demons are IMMUNE to pain, fear, nausea, stun, exertion, dizziness, fevers, sleep, FIRE, cold, MAGMA, drowning, breathing. Some of them do bleed, and some can't fly. Others (like in fort mode) can fly even if they have no wings. All of them have about the same body_size (10000000) as an adult Giant. Only Whales and fully grown Dragons are larger.

Since he is immune to sleep, he is only "faking it" to fit in with his followers. Go adventure for a while until you have better weapon and fighter skill than him. Or kite him to a tall cliff and stand near the edge, because he will likely try to charge you.

Whale sharks (20,000,000), bronze colossi (same), cave dragons (15,000,000), and basking sharks (same) are also bigger than that.

You're saying that the largest megabeast in the game is matched in size by the whale shark? That... I... I need to make them trainable.

On Topic:
Try to find bolts to throw if you're going that route. They run out fast, but they do pretty good damage when they hit. You may even puncture an important organ!

Actually, a full grown dragon is even bigger than that (25,000,000), so the whale shark is tied for second with two others. Although it takes a dragon an entire millennium to get that big (they start out the size of a grizzly bear), so in most worlds they won't be the biggest.

OK,I just encountered an " tortoise demon " in adventure mode ,He's in a fort filled with vampires , I tried hundreds of times and always died in few seconds.
After that I wait till they all fall asleep and sneaking into his room and try to strangle him ,like you said HE JUST ONLY FAKING !!  there's no " Unconscious " appeared when you look at him.
But somehow I successfully get my hand on his throat and strangled , and NOTHING HAPPENED .
So I keep on pressing the arrow key and increase my fighter , wrestler skills to Legendary level .
And I left that filthy fort before sunrise .  :)

He doesn't breathe. You can't strangle him. If you could wrestle him, try putting him into joint locks and breaking stuff.

The demon is probably too big to have any of that happen to him. Though if you're strangling him, maybe not. An eye gouge is the most likely to work, I haven't gotten great results with joint locks even on thing my adventure's own size.

However, Yuzuke, I think you have found a good way to train: it's not easy to hit, but it won't attack (will he?) and since it is technically conscious you still get skill point for fighting it.
