Yeah, I support higher income taxes while secure in the knowledge that I'll be paying a big chunk of them while requiring few of the benefits.
Your use of the word "I'll", which is equivalent to "I will" implies that you do not currently pay high income tax. I put it to you that you cannot judge how you would feel about high taxes until you are experiencing them yourself.

I love how selfish the rich are. "HOW DARE YOU TAX US MORE, DESPITE THE FACT THAT IT WILL AFFECT US LESS AND WE EARN MORE." I especially love the super-rich, running away to their tax havens, despite the fact that they make enough money in a year to last ten lifetimes.

Without going into too much detail, you're incorrect.  But of course everyone's hoping to make more as they get further in their careers, so of course I expect to pay more in the future.

iirc around 40% of rich people think they should be taxed at higher rates. I think there should be a new word to refer to those who want special favors and believe they shouldn't be taxed more. Perhaps 'Oligarchists'.

Bear in mind that the super rich usually rely pretty heavily on security services, roads and education of their workers.  See how long they'd last with those things withdrawn.

The rich are also the ones who benefit the most from a strong military.  Your average joe doesn't benefit a great deal when the econopolical climate changes overseas, for example.

I support a small well equipped military capable of defending the nation until aid from others arrives.

I support reducing the size of government in order to save people money because government is inherently wasteful. With the lower level of regulation I believe that voluntary consumer unions be formed to protect the average Joe from corporate abuse, as unions protect workers.

Incorrect in my assumption that you are not paying a high tax and and thus your willingness to pay is more than conjecture, or incorrect in my statement that you will be unable to judge you will feel about said taxes?

The government is there to stop all those ambitious and greedy people from doing anything effective, by binding them in red tape.

It really is for the best.

But they have the right to use their company as they wish, distasteful as it is.

That works great as long as you have exceedingly reliable allies who don't embrace your military spending policies but rather have a bloated, interventionist defense institution.

I'm Canadian, we could spend $0 and never be in danger because the USA would never allow anyone to conquer us, and the EU would never put up with America taking us over. America can't really pull this off because it got sucked into playing global (corrupt) policeman after the fall of the British Empire.

Eh, actually, I misread Nikov's post since I didn't read the context around it.  Never mind.
