No, the cages are not forbidden, and the stockpiles themselves are set to allow everyone.  I even made a new stockpile, just to be sure.  The only burrows i have is the emergency burrow, which is only used during a civilian alert.

as for an alert preventing them from moving it, i'm currently in active/training.  Civilians are actively moving through the fortress itself.  civilians are free to do whatever.

yep.  (forgot to mention this)  The cages are actually located in the main exit, and the storage area is located in the main storage area.   So there's dwarves moving PAST the cages, and into the area all the time.

How long has this been going on? During sieges there is an awful lot of goblinite flowing around...

for over 1 dwarf year.  and that includes the times i have to close the drawbridges (sealing the dwarfs inside, along with the trolls in cages) and during that time, i will see my 7 or so idlers drift, slowly, up to 12, 14, even 20-40 dwarves.

Have you tried creating a minor new Animal stockpile somewhere? If this is a bug, perhaps the new stockpile will accept the troll cages. You could then use the 'q' - 't' take-from function to consolidate them back into the main Animal stockpile.

its been already done, and no go.  I didn't mess with any of the settings in the new stockpile, either.

And before i forget, NO cages whatsoever are moving to the stockpiles.  i've made, and remade them in several locations, and yet, they don't move.  Is my game bugged?

Further note: the cages ARE moving, into newly built cagetraps.

That would explain why you have all those goblins yet no trolls in the stockpile... sapient species don't count as animals.

Oh. That would also explain why this dragon-cage has been sitting for a year near my kitten-wolfbait trap area (one kitten, one leash, many many cage traps in a few remote corners of the map. I was getting sick of ambushers and wolves killing my hunters)

Thanks! Now, my arena fights might get... Interesting  :D

watching demons genocide goblins would certainly be fun, but i'd keep a massive stone block suspended above just in case (inevitable case that all goblins die horribly without ever scratching enemy)

edit: i think i should make my point clearer:

it's not due to goblins being that weak (although they are, of course), but due to that they will not actually fight, preferring to flee instead, because the squads they were in are defeated long ago.

Anything will fight if cornered. But it won't stick around to kill things if it has a chance to get away. The only creatures that are exempt from this are those with the [NOFEAR] tag, such as Giant Desert Scorpions.
