barrels belonging to stockpile

i have a couple bareels that i could use in gmae but i cant because the barrel belongs to a certain stockpile even though it is empty and i cant get to put anything in it

I've had this happen. Go into your stockpile properties, set it to owning no barrels, let the dwarves get the empty barrels they need, then turn it back up.

Yeah, the dwarves will try to keep an extra empty barrel around in each stockpile.

AlanL's solution seems pretty good, that or just make more barrels.

On a related note, my artifact barrel apparently belongs to a stockpile, but is currently stuck to my legendary carpenter. Not sure that there's any other effect though, and it could be intended.

You can also set the reserve barrel number to save some empties.
