You're trying to break into a home here and you haven't taken the precaution to get frangible rounds or a real lockpick... Somehow I doubt you're going to worry too much about that. Anyway, if the door isn't too strong you could use birdshot as well. Besides, if you stand at a steep angle with the door you minimize the chance of them rebounding towards you.

Anyway, France's law on the matter is pretty good : you want a gun?
If your background check is clear, then you learn how to use it. Then you can have it, but no carrying around, and pretty much everything is traced.

Now, guns are pretty much useless in self defense, at least if your aggressor have a gun. You may draw fast, but his bullet will got you first.

They are several reason why America have so many death due to violence. They are conveniently listed under the name "popular conservative policies", namely : gun for everyone (concealed even), no social care, and awful work condition.

You're trying to break into the home of someone you just happen to know has a big plasma TV, because, you know, it's a bitch to drag a 120 inch screen trough a window. Hell, I don't know, someone said something about using guns for lockpicking, and someone else was surprised. I just pointed out that shotguns are pretty good for lockpicking. The question if there are sensible reasons to pick a lock with a gun is just as interesting as the question if there are sensible reasons to pick a lock in the first place...

If he's not some street punk but a hardened killer then you have more serious problems then selection of a gun.

Bigger screens are more expensive then small ones? Besides, the size doesn't matter if you've got a delivery van waiting for you (granted, someone who'd get a delivery van would probably also take the time to get frangible rounds, but still)

Basically, you don't get to have a damn automatic-capable assault rifle at home anymore.
If you want a gun, you must both prove you can use it and that you need it.
Every gun is registered and can be traced.

And the "gun lock pick" is a special round designed for use by cops and the military. Kinda rare for civilians. I mean they aren't restricted in most states but most punks don't bother.
