Blood, and I will float the rotting corpses of goblins and elves in it.

Hmm.
Aren't venoms only effective if injected into the bloodstream? (in RL, I mean)

I'm quite sure that getting poison on your eye or tongue etc. consuming it will also poison you, and if you swim in poison then you most likely are gonna get to taste some of it.

Cut 'em up a bit first.

Gallium (I'd probably have to mod it in first).
1. Fill the z-level underneath a (shorter then the normal path) side-path (that is set entirely to restricted so dwarfs dont be idiots) with molten gallium.
2. When it solidifies, remove the floors above so that the side-path has gallium floors.
3. Watch the goblins drowning in the gallium that melted because of their body temperature, which would then freeze, hiding the corpses.

Molten platinum, a testament to my immense wealth.

A small creature sometimes found on paper.  It is small.  Its eyes are black. It is adored by children for its cuteness.
(On a picture of cavies):
We see a family of small land rodents.
Dwarfs see masterpiece roasts.

Wait, am I the only one dreaming of running tap lines into my legendary dining hall?  C'mon, you know that idiot Dwarven Child wants to do a keg stand at his next party...

Field's metal, warm it up with lava, then dump it on the goblins.

instant statues.

Give cats natural metallic armor and throw them in your danger room.  Also allow their mouth and tail to grasp (shield in mouth, weapon in tail xD)  Have a cat based military.  You know, do the same with all tame animals xD send in the cats as shock troops to disrupt the archers

Molten goldfalls on either side of my entrance, which will be surrounded by a moat of molten silver and a smaller inner moat of molten platinum.

The only way a true dwarf would answer this question is booze or magma (depending on his mentality) I am ashamed of all of you for even suggesting anything else.

I plan on modding in the ability to ferment magma so I could fill my moat with the two things Dwarves love most.

Gnomeblight.  Causes necrosis in gnomes, which is hilarious to watch.
I hate them.

Booze. Apply a little magma and watch the pretty flames...

And listen to the screams, I guess...

The poll question was strictly to do with moats. You could have a fountain or indoors lake with some other liquid X if you want, but what will your moat be?

Congrats, Psieye. This is the first time I've seen a derailed thread get put back on the rails.

I would fill it with be-syndromed blood. I have enough forgotten beasts with the stuff to fill a fort with it...

Molten gold (kept so by an underground lava tube).  Imagine THAT sight upon coming to our fortress.
