[Far Future] When DF implements flow for any liquid...
« on: January 11, 2011, 09:05:45 am »

Reading yet more posts on "I want to make a moat filled with X", the thought occurred to me: when you can (in the far future) put any liquid X into a moat and even make drowning traps with them, what will X be in your first project?

Congrats, Psieye. This is the first time I've seen a derailed thread get put back on the rails.

Anything other than magma is undwarvenly, and there for as good as water.
Though, this has just reminded me that I really should try and get a magma moat going.

Also, isn't the current way liquids work like -really- hard to mix with other liquids?
I personally can't see it working. :x

Venom and liquid fire sound cool, those are for the moat. Maybe a pool into the mess hall, filled with Booze.

Oh the dilemma. Blood? Forgotten Beast extract? Mmh... extract is potentially deadly and extremely fun, especially if you mix several sort in a moat. However, blood just has that knack extract doesn't have, and you can make all sorts of tribute to Armok, which is almost mandatory. However, unless it coagulates or attracts vermin and vampiric creatures, it doesn't bring much more to the game than water already does. On the other hand, FB extract is probably a huge bitch to manipulate, moreso than magma, because at least magma is at the very least visibly contagious through !!fire!!.
Huh.
*votes FB extract*
But keep in mind I really REALLY do want to see blood too. Hey, I got an idea... troll blood moat!

Liquid native gold.

Ofcourse, this would require a way to melt ores and keep them molten.

Feces. There have been much discussion about its implementing. Many people insisted on realism, on new challenge. But let's be honest, the only thing because it should be added is possibility to cover elves goblins with it. Everything else is irrelevant.

I chose molten metal.

I mean, how awesome would it be to drown a goblin in liquid silver, then harden it!
Almost as good as obsidionization!

Forgotten Beasts seem to be akin to Toady playing Russian Roulette with your fortress, as they can be anything from harmless giant worms made of mud to necrotic-gas spewing nigh-invunerable iron hydras of doom.

Blood, followed by molten metal. Molten metal bumps up to the top if somehow it can be pumped to make falls of molten metal.

At that point, I will flank the entrance to my fort with spills of molten gold.

you mean elves with loads of stone loaded onto their backs while walking on their hands with dwarves holding their legs to guide them?

Molten gold in the traps. Golden statues with elves in them. Blood waterfalls in temple.

Either vomit or pus in the moat.  Hopefully causing instant nausia and a chance of infection to any living thing that falls in.
