I'm just very good at guessing what each person posts.

These are the three common ways of travelling across levels, at least in the tunnels: Ladders, Stairs, and Ramps.

Ladders are purely vertical, and could be as little as handholds cut into rock or a rope ladder hanging off a structure. However, they prevent a dwarf from carrying anything in their hands.
Stairs are 45 degrees, and take two upper squares and two lower squares. They can be travelled by a dwarf carrying something.
Ramps are 22.5 degrees, taking four upper and four lower squares. They can be travelled by carts and wagons.

I bring this up because there is a 3x3 grid of what was presumed to be stairs, but obviously cannot be now. The planned digging takes place on the north face of that grid, so it could turn into a set of three stairways, or make part of a spiral stairway around a hole.

Apparently having a redundant creature entry causes the game to say, "Oh, look, it's crazy world now. Nothing makes sense! Alligators live in houses!"

What kind of modifications would we need to make for the spiral staircase?  Because that would be pretty flippin' sweet.

This is a stair and ramp going up to the planned second level, plus a spiral stairwell which would require some digging and rebuilding.

A spiral stairwell would have to be a 4x4 square, with 2x1 on each side being the stair and each corner a regular floor.

Kog is in semi-strong support of the Goldguards, and weaker support to Industrialists and Doomguards.

Let's just do the 3x2 stair, it might not be as cool as a spiral staircase but it would require much less work.

Norrec, you know my character.

EDIT: But seriously, I think it would be a big-ish project for only one dwarf.
