hi!

in my last fort i had two fisherdwarves die in a fire after a magma crab got a way to the surface.
i ordered coffins for them and forgot it but later on i noticed one of them haunting. the spook was hanging around the pond where he used to fish when he was alive.
apparently their corpses were lost in fire and nothing was left to put in coffins. after looking at the ghost for a while i guessed to check its inventory -
it had a whole bunch of fish hauled, and the stack grew as if it was fishing! i put the ghost to rest and unforbidden the food - it was all completely usable. I guess now i could just claim it.
Did anyone by chance noticed ghosts doing any other useful job?
That would be nice if the whole food industry could be driven by spooks who don't eat, sleep, go on parties or run from goblins?

What! this is amazing science! I'm totally testing this when I get a chance--i have farmer and fisher ghosts too--did you just unforbid their food? Before it was at rest? What kind of a ghost was it?

Maybe you can make a "Necropolis" where all labor is performed by the undead.

Foolprooof way to penetrate aquifers of unlimited depth.  (Make sure to import at least 10 stones for mechanisms)
Toughen Dwarves by dropping stuff on them.  (Nothing too heavy though, and make sure to wear armor.)

no, i put the ghost to rest first. i do not know if just claiming the food would work, but the ghost is reusable anyway, you can summon it back.

it was something non-violent, forlorn haunt it read in description.

This might be interesting to play around with. Granted I've never actually gotten a ghost...
