Wurm is a game where everybody spends a week digging a spot, making a square palisade, turn every single tree they can find into charcoal and then get bored and leave it to be overrun by invaders...

Well, I've been playing H&H for around two weeks now. No raiders yet, and I got into a village with nine other people. So far, so good.

I've kept lurking the forums, and even playing with a very low profile. Apparently, the region where I lived until they raided me is called the "Wild Wild Northwest". People seem to agree that this area is the most dangerous in the map right now.

My settlement was kept far from rivers, but a big village settled 3 squares from me and by the river, so my place was inevitably found. Also the biggest russian village was located 5 minutes away from me. I guess that explain why I got not only raided, but completely destroyed.

Advice, never open your gate to strangers (In fact, your key should be on an alt, and this alt always offline until you need it). If they find you, the asking for food or bandages trick is quite old already. And of course, stay away from rivers. Don't touch any square that can be viewed from the river, including cutting down trees or paving. Don't give griefers a chance! Also, for hemits is a good idea to keep metal working items hidden, that means all your smelters, furnaces etc should be in the caves. Make them think you don't have any metal!

It's a pretty small homestead now, but it'll grow into a grand village,
