I just started playing this a few days ago.  It's incredible.  But, if you meet anyone they will straight up murder you for no particular reason.  If anyone else from b12 is playing I would love to join or start a group.

Not sure if there's a point in starting right now, months after world reset, players that are still alive are pretty much stated already, some of them willing to kill you with one punch. I was playing haven on few worlds and i have to say that this game needs serious updates. New combat, new lvl up system (i see it as a Ultima Online like style where u gain skills by doing things) and much much more.

HARD is right, without a group or protection you are very likely to get brutally murdered by a player before you can even throw a punch (Literally, you need good curios to even get the skills to attack another player). Starting now I would recommend to find a group, or just wait for next world regen.

If things are as deserted as they were prior to the last world reset, it shouldn't be hard at all, provided you use your State of Nature sense. Avoid other people, use crops and supplies from derelict buildings, avoid taking actions that leave a scent, and build your hermitage somewhere in the far-off, desolate wilderness.

As a hermit, your initial skills need to be Exploration and Foraging. Once you're getting a good, regular flow of LP, you can consider farming and cooking for controlled skill gain. Avoid making your settlement look too elaborate and prosperous. Lone wolves don't hunt big game; avoid combat (not hunting) entirely, unless you really make it for yourself.

If someone catches or kills you near your homestead, it's time to move on. Articulate, good English/your native language-speaking people on small, isolated homesteads are potential trade partners and friends, but should always be treated with suspicion, and respected for treating you the same way.

Double post. B12's bandwith is becoming a big thing.

Thanks for the advice, everyone.  I will take your suggestions on how to manage playing solo, Ibid.

Yes this game is insanely hard. People can and do one-punch kill you for the lulz, I have found. :( Perma-death is such a great feature for an mmorpg though: having something meaningful at stake upon death draws me in in a way most games can't.  I'm going to be playing this one for a while.

new lvl up system (i see it as a Ultima Online like style where u gain skills by doing things)

It used to be like this in previous worlds, up to world 4, when they changed it because there was too much bot abuse to level up skills in the old system..

Iv played back then and that wasn't exacly what i mean, back then u had LP gain for everything u did and u could spent it on skills, what i would like to see is skills raising automaticly, for example u craft wooden objects so your carpentry got incrased, u fight with sword so your melee skill raise up etc.

You can't get any more bot friendly than that.

Boting with perma death for combat's pretty easy still actually.  I used to do it in HnH and also in wurm quite a bit.

But it won't be if u had to raise your combat skills by actually fighting, with possibility to fail and get killed first by ants then by fox, boar and bear you will have to watch your char and eventually run to the boat. It can be easy if you can spent LP on combat skills first.

Getting killed by anything but another player or a bear is a lot harder than it seems.

Once again i'm not talking about current system where u can put thousands of lp in combat skills and just eat alot of stuff then go fight bears with prepared character. I'm talking about my vision, the way i would like it to be and it's a Ultima Online or The Elder Scrolls style, where you gain skills by using them, you want to make a warrior then u grab a sword go to the wildereness kill ants, then rabbits, then foxes, then boars, then bears and you progress slowly making a warrior character, that will demand more thinking. Right now you can just hide beside the palisade, send your alts to collect curiosities, meanwhile eat and lvl up stats, when u got curiosities then you lvl up your combat skills and thats how the great warriors are born in HnH! first time they leave the settlement and they can kill you with one punch. I dont like it.
