Check for the "Sevenless' guide" to HnH. It's the best source of info when you start this game. Right now, I admit I live in a very dangerous place. My settlement covers 25% of the land in a peninsula (it's more an Island, because the map limit blocks the land connection with the rest of the area). Not very high resources, but I don't like to live near the water (I like being far enough to not be discovered). I have some neighbours, and they are not the most honest guys in the game... With luck, I will finish my palisade between today and tomorrow... But if I lose everything I will just start again far from the water.

So I've finally started a piddly little shack in the woods (shack is a bit of a misnomer, all I've done of note yet is chop a tree down. If anyone would like to join me please PM me. No escaped lunatics for obvious reasons.

EDIT: As a note, I am more then willing to take in people that are looking to get into HnH for the first time what with the new world! So don't be shy.

Someone tried to kill me today. I was foraging when someone appeared in a boat. I inmediately returned to my boat and escaped. He tried to chase me for 5 minutes until he gave up. God, that was intense.

Frogs man, you need frogs! I kid you not, a half a dozen well-dropped toadies can obstruct the passage of boats, and if I recall correctly can be a pain to pick up, what with the clipping.

Just took part in my first serious fight of this world, was pretty fucking intense.  4v2, with me being on the side of the two, but we held them off and even brusied them a fair bit before they ran.  I then sat outside thier village shooting them in the face for attacking me for awhile.

From your guys' description, this sounds like a Don't Starve meets Minecraft, Alpha, Online. Does that sound right?

Just so you know: if you come across a leanto with a bed in it, a hearthfire next to the leanto, a drying rack a couple of blocks away from the hearthfire, a dreamcatcher next to the leanto and a single piece of fence just behind a tree, it may be mine. Especially if it's near to a pine/broadleaf forest border.

AND I wouldn't mind finding a couple of guys to live with, as I'm basically on my own, and my ability to get stuff has stagnated.
GO you can move in with me/sone/chee/?datgum? If you want.  You can't move into the main town right now as thats technically not my town, I'm just a villager but I'm sure sone would welcome you to his little camp
And I'll be swinging by with goodies when I'm not shooting evil bastards.

There isn't any maliciousness in it, I'm just paranoid. Not that I really have anything to steal at this point. And it's not like any escaped lunatics post in the thread. :P

Welp, I'd probably be killed within... a few moments. Ant knocked me out. ANTS!

To be fair, the combat system is rediculously complex and difficult to get a gauge on. I think everyone has been knocked around by ants at some point. :P

I do like it though! At times I kind've wonder why though.

WOuld you be willing to take in a recruit who has just signed up less then an hour ago, willing to work in exchange for learning of the game(as I prefer to expirience a game rather than read about it). If so, then what world and about where? And if not, then alright then.

I think I'll learn a bit more before joining a town. Will check in later when ready.

Started playing this... how do I do this whole survival thing? I can't find anything to eat. Tried to tackle a fox, ate some dirt instead. Ants are kicking my ass. And I'm starving :(

I decided not to play after all. I let your town leader know last night and said she could destroy my hearthfire. Thanks for vouching for me and getting me in. I don't know why I ever think I have the time or energy to play Haven. Pretty sure I wrote the same thing two years ago during a Bay 12 town in World 4. The game requires a lot of time and involves a lot of risk. It's a tough game to play casually. The idea of playing Haven & Hearth is just so irresistible though!

Ants are horrible monsters (not really, but you need about 10 unarmed skill to kill one mano y mano. Anything beyond ants is typically hunted from the river with a sling or in melee an enormous surly man that everyone loves.). Start raiding their hill, run away for a bit of a distance, then run back to their hill and raid again while they're slowly crawling back. You'll get some ants out if it. Not much food but probably the best FEP to hunger ratio for the early game. Not that that's a big deal, but it's always a nice plus.

If you find rabbits walk up to them as close as you can, then right click them or punch them. If you right click them make sure you have a 2x2 area in your inventory to pick em up. From there I'm sure you can figure it out.

And finally if you haven't taken the skill foraging, do it. Raise your exploration a bit and once you raise exploration enough you'll probably never have food issues again.

Another general tip, as ibid said earlier in the thread, unless a person is actively helping you out in some way, do not trust them! If they say get closer, ask why while moving away from them. If they ask for an item, at best, drop it at your feet and run off. Paranoia is how you stay alive against other people. If you see a person in a black robe, log out immediately. If you see anyone with a bow or sling, get out of dodge. You get it. Not to say to not trust people if they've earned it, buuuuuuuut assume everyone you don't know is trying to take your skull out of your head and study it, and some are just being more stealthy about it.

on another note, got another person in my little gang. As always, PM me if you want to get in on this in a small group. I'll toss an HS atcha.

Start raiding their hill, run away for a bit of a distance, then run back to their hill and raid again while they're slowly crawling back.

Better yet, if the (literal) coast seems clear and you're inclined to take the risk, you can hideout in the water by clicking on the deep until your character is on the very edge of the shallows. The ants will follow you in, but turn away at the last moment and lose aggro until you begin raiding their hill again. If you do initially take some damage from the tiny demons, don't fret- just inch yourself a little further into the water.

Oh, and Captain- did you check your PMs? :p
