So I havent played world 6 at all, decided to give myself a little preptime and jump into a hermit early start, see if I can figure out the Curios.

from what im guessing... your first move should be to move your slider 1 tick to peacefull (more LP from peacefull and it will tick change aswell)
After that... Im guessing you should start 'discovering' asmany basic items as you can? or should you wait for another tick towards peacefull?

I've found that raiding anthills is a good skill to develop if you want to get your hands on curios (ant soldiers, queens and Empresses).

Im at 7 exploration now and see more dandilions that I know what to do with, so thats nice... having access to a swamp is also nice for the dragonflies.
I dont really bother with the conecows... but if the change to finding good soil also means I wont be able to find above q5 foragables without some survival I'll reconsider. and will have to divert more LP towards survival rather than just exploration.

edit: after reading the *changelog it seems that getting atleast 10 survival is going to be pretty important early on, Im guessing I might even have to get Survival to a decent level before investing into exploration =x

edit 2:  also since this is my first exposure to the Curio system I gotta say im actually pretty impressed. I'm guessing its a decent counter to the bot griding I recall.

First, before I forget; Yolan, is this Brodgar going to be modeled after your Gondor thread, or is that a separate project? I'm not really interested in joining, but I am very interested in seeing how it goes.

If you really wanted to get the most out of your discoveries, I guess you'd idle until you had full peaceful and change. But that'd be silly. Discoveries are really just there to give you enough skills to do basic stuff and get curios. Also, cone cows are actually kind of crazy efficient in terms of LP:time if they're the same quality as the other stuff you're getting. I suspect that the Survival hardcaps mean that'll stay true for a while.

I'd say a little Exploration at the start should still be the first goal (around 10). Garbage-quality forageables are still good to eat (either because you're starving or the varied diet bonus) and having some strings is always nice. But after you can see the basic stuff, I imagine you'll want to start focusing heavily on survival. (or probably some ratio between the two; it all really depends on soil quality around where you've settled I guess)

The curio system completely removed grinding bots, yes, but the fact that H&H has always been feast-or-famine means that it's not too hard to throw a bunch of mediocre (or even good, probably) quality curios on an alt and manage those every few hours/days and have a perfectly decent character who has never actually done anything. I think general consensus is the problem is actually worse.

-

As far as B12 settlement(s) go, it looks like we've not come anywhere near any kind of consensus. According to jorb's last post on the matter, I think the world goes up in about 11 hours from now, so if people are looking to get in ASAP there's not a whole lot of time to decide on the matter. Even if we're planning to fracture into smaller settlements we probably should all spawn off the same hearth secret so we'll actually be neighbors (though I suppose that means we'll all be on top of the same resources so eh).

Okay, so we'll basically get one guy to find a random spot that we all spawn in and go our separate ways

Cone cows give the highest lp/hour of most items in the game, highest for a q10 absolutely.  You gotta keep in mind you have 10 int too, thats a dragon fly, dandelion, cone cow, and something else.

Also Jorb has confirmed that it's either 'Hard cap by survival OR q10'  So you can't go below 10 for forgeables or mining.

As for early curios, find a hardwood forest with a swamp.  No seriously, birch bark boats are freaking awesome early on, you'll want to get boat making anyways asap to explore your respective areas and or move, hardwood forests offer a lot more discouveries, kuska's for water drinking and then bloted boletes for curios later on.  Right at the start you can also do well with a grassland and chance pulling auroch hair if you have nothing to lose, later on you'll want blueberries form there anyhow.  A secondary thing to go for is a localized mountain, and also a cave you can claim as your own.  Early caves make good vaults since you can block with hf's easy as pie, that or block your house anyhow.

I'd really, really like to see some sort of bay12 grouping, though brodgar if it's done the same as last time could be a bad idea for any sort of main character for us...  If we don't mind being near some big dudes I can move my hf out into the woods near the dudes I' m gonna play with and you all can spawn to your hearts content off of that spot.  Keep in mind though, if we all spawn off that one hf you need to agree to work together somewhat, because you are trapped on that land mass till one of you gets boat making.  However all being in the same general area also allows us to trade by simply walking to one another, and if you want to be near where I'm going to be, then you'll know that the big bad axe wielding mob of 40 is likiely to know you and not rape you bloody a week into the game.

Boatbuilding doesn't take much time at all to get to (at least not if someone beelines it), and birchboats are indeed one of the best early curios. Broadleaf forest is definitely the one to be in, though I always liked being on the border of the two just 'cause I like having everything.

Brodgar is designed to be a lawless urban cluster****, which is what most of us don't want, I believe. I think Yolan intends to make some changes, this time, but the spirit is still the same and it's going to be the same all-too-interesting experience early on, likely. I still wish Yolan all the best, of course.

kilakan's idea seems to be the best to me - as long as that group isn't looking to rule the supergrid with an iron fist or something. I doubt we'll get a B12 group big enough and stick-to-it-enough to really cause any growing room issues. And as I said, when I briefly tried World 6 a couple of weeks ago, it only took a couple of hours of play with the meager discoveries from a pine forest to beeline boats.

I doubt that the group is anything bad, compared to the other groups that have been of 'super power' status they are by far some of the nicer.

So has a B12 settlement been set up yet? I'd like to hop in and tool around as a hermit near the settlement.

Gondor is not going ahead I'm afraid. Actually, after seeing how Brodgar went in W6 I think it has more going for it. So, this round it's going to be very similar to previously, except with a walled area for the idol with some parkland, and larger claims.

If you are not aware, W6 Brodgar had a lot of killings going on throughout, but even when it got really heavy the town was never abandoned. Towards the end we had more Bwalls sprouting (myself and Sabitani built some just days earlier), with some seven or eight active bwalled plots in total, and probably another 10 active palisade plots, maybe another dozen or more inactivish but not abandoned alts. From beginning to end my main character living in Brodgar was never actually killed either (although I did get mugged once).

But yeah, cluster**** it will be on many an occasion. That will always be the nature of the place. But at the same time there are a lot of nice people to play with, and if we can boost safety with a keep it might help cut down the murder rate a bit.

By the way, while the limit is 25x25 plots, you can always set up a bunch of plots next to eachother and make a small village inside the village with friends. One plot for farming, another for mining/smelting, another for living, etc. You can also start out in the town, and later on move out a bit where you can still benefit from trade without the plot restrictions.

I'm making a game called "Innkeep!", where you run an inn set in a low-fantasy world and try to lighten your guests pockets. Forum topic here.

That's a shame about Gondor. At least Brodgar's likely to turn out alright, though.

Anyway, the old world is on its way out now, according to jorb - my guess is the new one should be up within the next couple of hours.

EDIT: DISREGARD ME EVIDENTLY JORB THINKS IT'S ABOUT TO BE UP.

I wont be doing a village probably, but if 1-2 other people want to join me to work together, that would be cool.
