I think everyone's doing it wrong.  No one seems to remember that you can build just about anything underground.  Have a surface of farming, and then put EVERYTHING underground.

You might have noticed on the forums, but Brodgar is ticking along quite nicely.

Just to be clear, the town is not safe. It is a good place to play an alt on, or a low level character for a short time. You might have a stronger guy on if you don't mind the risk, but the reality is the town has no walls and is open to the public. Individual claims can be walled of course.

The hearthsecret is Brodgar, although it is temporarily down for 12 hours or so while the village idol is being worked on. Will be back up tomorrow.

Any 20x20 area that is spaced 5 tiles from another plot can be claimed by anybody who wants to live there. There are some advanced players and things. So, its a good place to get a leg up when starting out, have some fun, and maybe see a little drama.

Hoping some Bay12 people can make it.

Bump. Is anybody from Bay12 still running an active village? I'm guessing you have shifted discussion elsewhere?

Brodgar is having a party on the 11th this month (Saturday), peak time EST. The city has just kept growing and growing, now at over a hundred people I think, so come and check it out.

Also, for those of you who want to start a new character or move from your current location, I can introduce you to a group that lives purely underground. ;-)

That's a shame. I have a pretty safe location available if anybody wishes to have another go at the game. An underground faction of goblins. Yes yes, enemies of Dwarfs I guess, but still digging things underground is a major hobby. Just PM me in the game forums.

This is how it always ends, Yolan created Brodgar then fled with friends to a super secret private village. How many times have we all seen this same scenario play out?

I've been wanting to try this game for a long while, but I pretty much thought it was dead. If you guys are considering starting up again then I can help.

No I got repeatedly, wordlessly murdered every time I logged in. That's being driven off from the game, not quitting.

That sums up my experience with haven and hearth and the russian murderers...

I really want that one as a "when". I want "grubs", and "virgin woman" to turn into a dragon. and monkey children to suddenly sprout wings. And I want the Dwarven Mutant Academy to only gain their powers upon reaching puberty. I also have a whole host of odd creatures that only make sense if I divide them into children and adults.

Also, tadpoles.

??

I'm kind of offended by the above. I have two alts. One for Brodgar, one for a secret village. The character I used to start Brodgar is still there, still farming every day, and still alive. Brodgar is also bigger than ever. How have I 'fled' anywhere?

In my entire history of playing H&H, all I have ever done is try to make large open towns. At no point have I ever 'fled' any of the towns I made, or went off to live in some secret location, I just stopped playing. If I -had- abandoned people to go live with buddies in some secret place, why am I still a newbie player who doesn't know how to hunt and/or fight properly? My non-Brodgar alt (my first ever) in this world was created because I finally wanted to learn more of the game mechanics properly.

To be fair i've died a hell of a lot too... but I actually managed to get all the people who had been terrorizing us wiped out.  So I guess I should put it in the op that HnH containts massive amounts of murder, and favour calling with stronger murderers

Honestly that's just how the game works. I mean I feel for you, because permadeath combined with super long term character development is a huge sting, but that's a flaw (or benefit) of an Open PvP system. Whether or not this should've been the case can be argued. But the enjoyment of it is eventually getting to the point where you can be the jerk killing random people. The issue is there are no caps and as a result people cannot realistically catch up. I still love the game! But it certainly has a rather large flaw in that sense.
