A standing claim usually means the settlement is active, or at least untouched.  Yeah, there are random signs everywhere usually for useless stuff like piles of wood  :P.  If you get lucky you can get some really good loot though.

You make group members on your kin list red? The hell is wrong with you? Red is for enemies, even newbs know that.

Quiet heathen! :P
but yes, I was sitting there for about 15 min when Gelom rolled up and 3 shot it. Then gave us 4 boars. Either he has some extremely evil plan or is genuinely nice. And My bet is on the latter

Gifts of bears and boars to newb groups is the cheapest way to get allies. I did that all the time. The success rate is fairly low because most people quit before they become useful, but every now and then you get a really good fighter you can call when you need one.

Ah. Well, I don't mind it. For a bears and boars I don't mind helping a neighbor out in the future.

So, in other news... We have a idol. Yes. A idol and a bear on the same day, I know, insane. We are fucking DOING WORK HERE! This brings up the issue, of who will become chieftain. The village has 4 layers of command. The Lawspeaker, the head of the village, he can wear Lawspeaker gear (such as the Lawspeaker's Hat and Lawspeaker's Robes), revoke personal claims on village property, kick players out of the village, make crossroads, and remove the Chieftain from office. I will be becoming the Lawspeaker, since I got this whole shebang together. The Chieftain, can make people hirdsman, can summon hirdsman to him(teleport), can make people member of the village, can wear chieftain gear, and can make crossroads. And the Hirdsmen, of which there are 2, Can wear hirdsman gear. And Village members Can do everything(use/destroy/take things etc) in a village influence without leaving scents (the lawspeaker, chieftain, hirdsman are all members of village).
This is all shamelessly stolen from the wiki.

Anyways, The hird will be 2 most combat ready people, but we need a chief. Several people have voiced interest in becoming the chief, and If you want to become the chief post with why you should become chief. At 9 PM EST self nomination will close and voting will begin. I will not be voting and votes must be posted on this thread. You must be a member of the group to vote. Once the Idol is active tommorow I will tally the votes and the chief will be put into office. Good luck.

I nominate myself for chieftain since I undoubtedly have the current highest strength, con, agi, and UA of our group.  I've also been a lawspeaker or cheiftan in a large number of villages over the years, and have quite a bit of experience with combat and with running towns/villages.

...meanwhile, I have erected two tanning frames and am really really looking forward to getting a backpack.

Also, q51 soil, pretty sweet especially since I won't need any better for like four months. I sadly didn't get far enough away from civilization for my tastes, but oh well, the world is old. What kind of resource quality do you dwarves have?

I vote Kilakan for Chieftain, mainly because he is the overall most combat ready in the village.  He also has developed a more advanced hunting regime in the village

Well. There go the elections. I was hoping for more of a fight, but Kila will do well. On Tuesday, 6PM EST. We shall have the strike the earth ceremony. I hope that at least 6 people other than me will show up. There will be wine! And we will dedicate the village.

We will do it when we have enough people online and the Idol is ready. We need 5 people to save up 6K lp, or 4 to save 7.5K etc, so we can light the idol.
