Good luck. May you not die of old age before accomplishing that.

as the op I have to say, this game is shit.  The new form of 'combat' all the strong people have gotten into is basically hacking the game, causing server wide massive lag and crashing everyone they see.  You literally can not fight normally anymore, and everytime some large group wants to fight the server drops to a horrific fucking crawl.  On the other hand the devs have a new game coming out which coincidentally you can sign up for the beta atm for.
http://salemthegame.com/  at the bottom of the page you can sign up for the beta beggining next month, if you want to post the referall link they give you here I don't think anyone would mind much.  I also have some spare email accounts.  Just make sure you tell the person when you use the link, since only the first 3 referalls matters.

Best solution: lock the thread, let it die.

or just leave the thread open for those who do have something to say, (which is someone that isn't me I admit)

or well, I'll try.

I used to play this and loved it. but when develepment started on Salem, development on HnH kinda died off (which is understandable)
but for me haven and hearth was left in a state where it was sorta playable but still lacking in balancing and comunities interacting with eachother.

Still I've had a barrel of fun with this. but unless it gets some serious love and care from the dev's again I'm out.

H&H has always been a terrible game with great promise. That promise kind of faded away, and now it's mainly a way for a few dedicated scumbags to annoy the few new people who drift in.

Picked this up again recently, but I'm already bored of it again. Seems that once I settle down somewhere and build a palisade, all I have to look forward to is the boring slog of chopping lumber, building houses and replanting fields every few days. Problem is, you have to do all that shit if you want access to better (read: metal) tools and the rest of the gameplay features that metal offers.

It just feels like I'm working towards nothing. After I build my ovens and kilns and smelters, and IF I ever find a metal deposit, what then? What's all that effort for?

I know there's not supposed to be some big payoff in a survival sim. I'm working because it helps survive, grow my character, etc. But with H&H, you reach a point where you're almost never in any danger of succumbing to the wilderness, unless a griefer happens by. I could sit for weeks inside my farm now, without any reason to leave it, bar digging up crops and occasionally repairing walls. Yet there's so much more I could aquire- metal, silk, jewelry, but what difference would that make to my gameplay at this point?

I'm not ranting at the game or its features; I'm ranting at myself, for getting bored of it. I love survival sims, in theory, but I always seem to reach this point, and it frustrates me. Ultimately, this is a problem with me, not the game I'm playing.

I think this is the moment I go buy UnrealWorld.

So true. Best description of HnH ever, really.

I agree with the general observations here, although I think H&H had gameplay that was just good enough to serve as the base for the social game that it was. And when updates were frequent enough that progress or a reasonable facsimile thereof was being made it was easy to forgive the problems.

The social and gameplay aspects are of course intimately entwined, so in my experience stagnation of one leads to the other. People get bored in the same way Moogie described and leave, which seems to be devastating to smaller groups. I just kind of gave up (three separate times, I think?) thanks to a combination of 'gameplay's kind of grindy' and 'friends keep leaving'.

Still, the game had a good run for what was basically two Swedes in a basement, and may even be salvageable if they come back after Salem. The name is no doubt tarnished though.

well unless everyone wants to lock this thread I'll leave it up for game discussion.  Honestly I enjoy the quality and exploration grinding aspect, I walked across this world about 7 times before I quit and found some good quality nodes that I took.  But I have been and always will be a big pvp'er and once you couldn't fight without hacking the game, cause everyone else who fought hacked the game, I decided to quit.  That about sums it up.  The game is a good concept but the lack of moderators and development kills it horribly.

I dunno I feel like moderating anything beyond hacking is kind've against the whole survival aspect, unless that's what you were gettin at. :P

I feel like the game will probably pick up again once development on salem is done, unless they've come out and said they're just working on salem now or something?

I maintain the majority of the community has always been pretty terrible anyway, at least on the forums. I might check out wurm online since there's a B12 presence for me to get used to the game with.

Lag-scripts that affect the entire world by spamming massive amounts of chat.  Bots that will glitch run you so that you can no longer be hit while moving, making you immune basically.  Alt spam scripts to instantly spawn hundreds of alts at the same hf to lag and attempt to crash the server.  Those are the major ones that annoy me... oh and before I quit there was a command line you could say in area chat that would dc anyone who could hear you.
