I thought it was pretty fun until I died and lost completely everything (partly my fault, I had change set all the way up). It wasn't that I despised the idea of losing my progress, but the work ahead seemed like such a godawful pointless grind the second time I couldn't help but get bored out of my skull.

Kind of the same thing for me. I died twice, the last one was really not recoverable. The town had 3 members left and no income of curios. I could have played for a couple of weeks to get back to where I was but then what? Really seemed pointless.

The game was fun when things were changing fast. When you worked until you starved and then went on your hour long apple hunt. When the town grew every day... But after that? Not a whole lot... you could try and explore for some higher q sand or soil but in the end you were just doing the same thing over and over again.

Yes our town was awesome, but I got murdered while hunting, and all the new people we got were 'no-offense' completely fucking useless.  Everyone was squabbling over everything, we had one guy grabbing all the carts and wood to build himself a house, and I think it was fikes in charge?  Well you were basically never there and I could do nothing to really reinforce the get-the-fuck to work ideas when everyone was just pissing around due to the fact I was stuck on farm duty.  So yes it did suck towards the end, no one helped.  At the start it was amazingly fun though.  That is really the problem, the game is only fun in the first 2 months after a new world is genned, after that everything is taken/claimed or discovered, it gets boring.

I built a nice settlement with 2 of my friends, after we built up a bit and got a palisade up we were greeted by someone from Iron Curtain, who we eventually joined but stayed there. We found iron and tin in a nearby cave, so 2 of them went full industry while I went full nature, and we went to mining. After a while, those two went stupid and started hating each other for no reason so both of them quit, eventually I quit too but left my claim up. At the time of quitting, we had a stone mansion, 2 timber houses and a log cabin with tons of stuff including 1 cupboard + 1 chest of tin and 10 or so iron, with a bunch of tools. Our bull (given to us by IC) is still alive too even after over 2 months maybe of alone time and the walls are still totally intact. All the time we had a really douchebaggy neighbor, whom followed the same situation of their people quitting/defecting and the last survivor was sieged by IC until we drove him to quitting too. When I quit, Iron Curtain had been raided and they were moving away, off to form an underground city.

Over my life playing this world, I had gotten many allies and lots of enemies, mostly because I was part of Iron Curtain. I had every skill and *decent* stats and attributes, a q30 or so bronze sword and a q30 Ranger's Cape.

Watching history unfold on H&H is interesting, it's like a simpler form of real politics with lots of killing involved.

If I recall, the latest notable event closest to me quitting was Winterfell getting raided by Taar.

Hm, derp. I thought I'd played world 5, but actually I'd only played world 4 before now. How exactly does the LP work in world 5 and what else has changed?

Curios only. Remember the days of bear hunting to grind your stats? No more. Now you craft a small item, for no LP. Then, you put the item in your mental inventory, and wait. Wait long enough, and you get a piddling of LP.

Also, PTTG??, even if that map wasn't actually usable, it was still way cooler than the default maps. I'd much rather take landscapes and diversity over macaroni.

So... I store crafted items in those "study" slots, and LP just comes? Do I have to be online? What kind of items are most effective?

Also, this seems like a bad idea right off- in world 4, everyone got reward for helping to build roads, houses and walls. Now there's a notable conflict between community interest and self interest.

One bonus is that you gain LP while offline still.  It really FUCKFINF  pisses me off though, cause you know what?  I got attracted to this game for the relative grinding and hunting, I loved being able to mine and watch myself gain 20,000lp in an hour or two, or sling things at something for 30 minutes and gain a shit ton of lp.  Now there's no point in spending any time at all in game, just pop on, toss a half dozen curios in and then log off.  It sucks.

By the way, are the curios expended?

I had the most fun in W3 in a city of 3-5 people far out in the hinterlands. We managed to build a city right beside iron, tin, and copper mines in the newest grids just before the world ended.. the idea of being out in the wilderness was pretty fun. And we weren't entirely left alone, either. We'd often run into random hunters who'd want to trade with us, and also had a few interesting meet ups with people who probably would have killed us if we didn't run behind our walls.

While I had more fun in W3, there was definitely more FUN in W4... Our small group got absorbed into a larger city, which was shortly afterwards assaulted by another large city. I had my first few actual battles then; in the first battle, I killed for the first time, and in the second I was killed for the first time. We then relocated to an underground city, but the obscene amount of grinding I had to do to get my skills back up interfered with life, so I took a break from H&H.

I haven't really gotten back into the game since then... but if there's a Bay12 group I might pop in and see if the game can catch my interest again.

They are expended, yes.

And yes, world 5 sucks in copious amounts. The most fun I ever had was a tie between world 1 and world 3. World 1, I remember nearing the end of world, I built a small community on the outskirts of Bottleneck. We had four layers of palisade around a very spacious area, a farm we had created in the middle of the mudflat. Hamel walked by one day and told me I was crazy, because we had production out the wazoo, with something like ten kilns running, five 10x10 fields, and our mining operation. World 3, I remember working the mines at DawnForge, before eventually striking out on my own, and using numerous alts to haul all my goods to a new place. I spent weeks building up an armory for use if we went to war, and in the end I had three houses where the cellars were filled with cabinets filled with chain mail, wrought swords, boots, and bucklers.

Edit: I'm going to send a PM to Loftar and see if there is old code he would be comfortable with sharing. I'm expecting a "lol seriously? no". But maybe, just maybe, there will be a yes.

I pretty much quit after logging on for a week to find I was the only one active in town at all. It just isn't a fun game to play by yourself for that much time.

I'm thinking of starting to play this game.

Does anyone have a HS I might join with?

Tried using your HS, nothing.

If you want, try using my HS: Archangel
