Azkanan also basically kicked me out of his group because he didn't want my IRL friend to join us... So i'm off with him building our own settlement... Xenophobia is running rampant in the bay12 population of this game.

maybe because he doesn't know your friend whatsoever

I'm over it, but if you can't trust a teammate to bring in their good friend who they trust... That's not really a good recipe for a successful settlement.

Excuse me? Kicked you out?

Gara: Can I please join your settlement?
Azkanan: Sure, but don't invite anyone else.

A day later.

Gara: Can I invite a friend?
Azkanan: No. If everybody invites a friend, that's 5 becoming 10, then 10 becoming 20.
Gara: Fine, I'm leaving. Thanks for nothing, bye.

Wow... So it was just me? Why did azkanan kick me out and then let a bunch of others come... I'm certainly not coming back to a place I don't feel welcome at. My friend and I are going to make a go of it on our own...

Get it right. You left of your own accord, fully in the knowledge of a pre-arranged rule.

Is this village still on going or has it collapsed?

I'm new to playing this and just managed to drown in a river.  If you want me to join you Pm me a hearth secret thingy that I assume will let me start near people who know what they are doing.  Hypothetically I could be useful?

I'm vaguely interested in this game, but now that the first post isn't an introduction to the game anymore, I can't really make my mind up.

Could anyone fill me in on what it's about?

Well, at its heart it's a crafting and building game. Everything you do affects the game world, from deforesting an area to creating a hermit cabin (though that will eventually ruin and fade if not kept up). There's also a heavy survival element - (assuming you start out on your lonesome) you'll spend a while living in a lean-to hunting roots, berries, and rabbits.  Aggressive animals - boars and bear, in this case - will attack and possibly kill you. Death is also relatively permanent in that you must create a new character (with a new name), though he can inherit a small amount of his ancestor's gained LP and other stats. You also are what you eat, in that almost every food gives you Food Event Points that will determine what statistics (Strength, Agility, Intelligence, etc.) increase.

An enormous part of the late-game (both intentionally and because it's an alpha) is about politics and social, uh, stuff. PvP is always on, so, as you might have read in this thread, you might get killed for no real reason at any time. Usually once the 'good guy' factions are up, though, that becomes highly discouraged.

That's probably a bit long for an overview, but eh. It goes without saying that playing with a group is generally a lot easier than hermit-ing it.

TL;DR version: Build things, worry about things getting smashed, socialize (or go xenophobe, I guess).

Oh hello KoE, you ninja reply maker you. >:P Actually our respective replies cover pretty different topics, so together they make a pretty decent introduction! :D

I'm vaguely interested in this game, but now that the first post isn't an introduction to the game anymore, I can't really make my mind up.

Could anyone fill me in on what it's about?

Wilderness survival in a massive randomly generated, persistant online world. Simple graphical style, isometric viewpoint. Death is permanent. You begin with no skills, no posessions and no home. Your first actions will invariably be along the lines of collecting sticks, building fires and securing some short-term food source. As you continue to work, you're able to 'buy' skills with the experience you earn. Gradually you can learn to do things like plant crops, or do carpentry (build boats, houses, carts, etc), cook, sew clothes (and armour), and all manner of things.

All new players start off in a completely random location of the world. While you work to build up your homestead, everyone else is doing the same thing. You'll meet travellers, but don't trust strangers lightly, or you may quickly discover that theft and griefing are very easy to get away with if you haven't prepared any defenses. Criminal acts like this thankfully leave behind special 'scent' objects, however, which a skilled ranger can track back to the offender's hearth fire and exact revenge on them. There are no NPCs except for wildlife.

Speaking of which, animals can be hunted, or can hunt you. They can be skinned, and their bones used for making tools and arrowheads. Wild sheep and cows can be domesticated and kept, where you can shear the sheep and milk the cows and even breed them.

Since I haven't looked at the game for many months, I can't say much more with any certainty. I'm about to go check out the latest now.

I once shot a bear in the eye with a bow on the first shot, cut it up, found another one, and shot it in the eye too. The collective pile of meat weighed more than my house.

Nah, I've found a nicely depopulated area, so i'll be staying here to try to make a go of it with my friend.

Thanks for the offer though!

Village got attack and different people moved at different times so it wasn't all together. There wasn't really any explosion although a few people did get into arguments, but that always happens from time to time.

I think it's a shame we got split up but each group kinda likes where it is so unless someone finds an awesome location where we all go, "actually it is worth moving", I doubt we'll get together again.
