Well if KoE's info is true then it matches with what I have gathered...

As I said to someone today...

A Wise Man does not build his house on the sand, (And if he didn't interrupt), nor does he build it on the battlegrounds.

Folly and Myself have found a local that is nearly compleatly void of Players, bar for a few small one/two people homes. The area we found has 36 Clay in the MudFlats and around the same level on soil. There is even a 25ish q clay up a river a short distance away...

Though the problem is that its distance is quite large a trip for those still camped at Beef's place...

Well hell, I appear to have spawned on a frigging island. The only ways off appear to be to swim or to build a boat, which involves building a saw, which involves either making a mine or killing an animal. I think I'm just gonna swim for it and hope. If I drown, who cares, it's a new character anyway.

Me, Inaya, Torog and Kearn all got along fairly well, so we moved away together. We found Q53 clay, an Iron Mine, a decent river and a decent lake - all within a minute of each other about an hour to the west. Good times.

And now that we don't have any of the immature power-cravers in the team, or the unappreciating members of the village, we're doing excellently.

If you guys are where I think you are, you've had the misfortune to set up between two warring factions. (I seem to recall goons being mentioned somewhere in this thread). I was in the same place, and I picked up and got outta there. No place in H&H is safe, but there are less dangerous ones than between those two.

People being total asshats really does put a sour taste in one's mouth, but every single random guy I've met has either interacted either nicely or just totally ignored me. In fact, Niltrias goes out of his way to reach out to people and I don't think it's ever bitten him. I'm not saying Cajoes' reaction is unwarranted, just trying to put it in perspective. The problem is it only takes one bad apple to spoil the barrel.

I wasn't going to comment on the in-fighting bit, since I don't really have a dog in the fight, but I will say I've seen what the B12 community can do if they rise above it. I sincerely hope that's what happens here.

Eh, I'm not bitter, just stressed out. My social phobias don't let me handle confrontations well.
Edit: (also the prime reason I refuse to assume leadership (the second being I sleep when everyone else is active))

I think the problem is one of philosophy. Bay12ers are so nice and cool to each other that we often forget that the world at large is not Bay12. The aim of this particular MMO is to put people in pre-history moral situations. Ie: you kill or be killed. Bay12ers dont do well with PVP games because they're all used to and interested in building pretty things all day long. That's all well and good, but in this game, not everyone is interested in being nice. Just like prehistoric civilization, sometimes people die. Sometimes a lot of people die.

Bottom line, if you see a dude in a farmer costume with no weapons, cautiously say hi. If you see a dude in a helmet and bear cape with a sword, run the fuck away to somewhere safe.

Once everyone realizes the above, the game will be fun again... Stick together, be careful around people you dont know, etc...

Well said. This game seems to lend itself well to dark-ages-style civilization. Inside your own walls, as long as you protect them well enough, you can be safe and enforce your own rules. Outside the walls, traveling through the wilderness (or even on roads), the odds of getting your throat slit just so someone can grab whatever you were carrying are high enough to keep people in the cities.  While it may be true that a lot of the people who kill other players without warning are just doing it to annoy another player anonymously (which is a shame), it's just as possible that they're role-playing murderers and thieves who trick people into trusting them and then kill them and take their stuff.  My recommendation is that we all treat them as the latter rather than the former, because you can't stop griefers, you can only do your best to tolerate and overcome them.

EDIT: Can anyone help me out with the automapper on the Gilbertus client? Is there a way to load a map of your choice rather than just the one the game is currently using? And even when logged in now, when I try to open the map I just get a blank screen. It was working before, but now the map is gone even though I didn't touch anything... Can anyone explain to me how to use it properly? Thanks.

Go to the map folder.
Edit currentsesion.js (notebook)
Enter the folder name of the map you want to watch.

Cool, thanks. Is there a way to tell the program to keep adding to a particular folder instead of starting a new one for each session, or do I just need to copy-paste the new map tiles into an old folder?

EDIT: Is the game down again? Man, I only get to play two days a week and it keeps crashing. :(

You can not.
Copying the map tiles, you need to change the name accordingly.
The new map has a different plate tile_0_0.png

So there's no simple way to make a world map then? That's a bummer.

Some form of image compare could work here, although it would have to take into account new constructions

Hm... Is there a way to add a zoom option to the map? I have no idea how this stuff works and trying to look at someone else's map is kind of unhelpful because it's zoomed in all the way and too big to find my bearings.

EDIT: Well trying to swim across the river killed me. Is there a way to delete an old character completely? I can't reuse the name, which I really want to keep. I don't care about inheriting the stats. And I started a new character, "inheriting" the old one, only to discover - to my horror - that I spawned in exactly the same place, only now I have even fewer LPs. I don't want to be stuck on this island and it would take frigging forever to make a boat (there are no animals on this island except a single boar, so no bones and therefore no making saws for me). I want a clean, fresh start, and the old character can go away forever - I just want the name back and a new spawn point.
