Garfield, that is, no offense meant to you, a bad design. A) Valuable vaults are a prime target, and the only way to filter trusted access is with keys, which themselves cannot be secured easily, thus invalidating any defenses you have for them. B) As I've said before, roads are prettier more than functional, because fast travel does not need roads. Putting the idol inside a little airlock makes it inconvenient for fast travel, and you don't need a space to 'process goods' because the home-made tools are always going to be outpacing the ones you stuff in there. C) Anything needing stored long term will be safer spread out behind multiple walls, and anything that you are leaving for someone else can be more easily just given to them.

Edit: A good, basic design for an idol is simply concentric squares, with the idol the focal point. Rams have a range of 25 tiles before they break, and the max a sniper can see is roughly 64 tiles. Therefore, a good design is four layers of brick walls, each 26 or 27 tiles apart. On the interior of each wall you should have a milestone trail for patrolling the length for rams. If you do this, you will have two layers completely safe from snipers, and rams would take roughly 32 real time hours to break through everything.

How about we just have some fun? If even half the people on this thread actually login and play, then we are off to a good start.

For some people, the planning is the fun! Especially those of us who've done the 'randomly build crap and then drown in your own tears' approach to village building.

That said I fully intend to (for the most part) turn my brain off and do what people tell me to do because I've had enough being in charge. I'm just posting here since it's apparently our launch pad and... Well, I was told to.

Give me the Plans and I will build it, its as simple as that...
Give me the Orders and I will follow them to the best of my ability...
Give me the Drive to continue working with you and I am your man forever...

Rams? What, how much as this game changed since I last played. Maybe I should take another look at it and if so I'll be happy to contribute to the b12 village.

I'd recommend we don't build up too much before the move to resources / mines though as I imagine that it will be a lot of work.

Is there a down side to this? would be much easier to defend wouldn't it (shorter walls needed for example)

Hmm.. An Underground community does sound interesting..
Would it be possible for us to make an underground fortress, with an above ground farm?

How much harder would that be? Would it be worth the Challenge for extra fun?

We'd need a cave near some fertile land that is also easy to defend, and we'd also have to fully explore that cave as if they are anything like when I last played they can have multiple entrances.

Is there any light sources that stay on now? Other than the hearthfire of course, otherwise lighting in the cave might be a pain.
