World 3 is indeed now archived.
Well.. So long, world 3.

Anyway, have we decided who is going to found our spot yet?

I'll go in first and send out a HS to everyone in this thread so we can join together.

Then, we can spread out and look for points of interest, then join back up.

Looks like I've got a change of plans here, so I won't be joining ya'll (not on a main, anyway). Good luck, though!

Just out of curiosity, what generally happens at the exact point when the world ends?

Nothing.
I expect they would just shut the servers off, press a button, and the server would be deleted.

Then, they would press another button, and the new server would be generated.

Maybe they might add in a couple of fancy messages like, a minute or so before though.

on another note, i suppose i will start searching for awesome sites, or just wait for someone to find an awesome site

what we want:
good quality soil, clay, or water- HIGH PRIORITY
grassland(optional, can be made)
good Q fishing spots (optional, food points are good)
not to be near a river (makes starting forts hard, at least when the griefers are able to grief)
marsh? (the one with leeches)
cave? (low priority)
mountain (chance of mine)

An ill wind blows across the hearthlands, Before it, it drives the stars and heavenly bodies, vanquishing from the sky. It carries amongst itself dust, blown up from ravaged fields, disused and razed, their last crops watered in the blood of their tenders. The lowing of animals, hungry in their cages, falls upon no ears that can help them. The oldest and newest of swords and shields, lie together now on battlefields, made in times past and renewed before time itself has past. In the very last seconds before all is simply gone, one can hear an echo, "Shit, loftar, do you know where the cables are?".

When the server is restarted, they probably spend an hour or two waiting for the database to delete all the data - as well as generate the new one.

It's all data, after all. Co-ordinates, animal statistics, how many logs a tree drops, etc.

Gilbertus' does... It has an exportable map, too.

At the risk of sounding like I'm planning things, didn't Yolan's place (World's End???) use a 'donut' structure? Technically it'd be more of a square donut, but still. (What I'm talking about is the starting place was so large, then a wall, and when they ran out of room, added another wall, etc). That actually doesn't sound as easy/good to me as it might to some others, but maybe it's precedent anyway.
I was with Yolan in building World's End before he went off to be full time Japanese...

We tried hard to get this place to work, at first the plan was to do the old Donut Rings around the place but slowly it became to hard to manage due to Cliffs and such, in the end large areas were plotted out and surrounded by walls and that was that...

It can work but its better to segrate areas then attempting to ring the center, in other words, build the center for Trade, inside only the Idol and Signposts that extend downwards. Then choosing a direction (NSEW) build a section, surround, then move onto the next direction. All the while extending signposts downwards and outside...

This was the plan, but due to inactivity, bullshitting griefers (they join under Yolan's Open door policy then fuck us over) and then finally Rage Raiding our MineVault (where our lone Miner who didn't really trust anyone had his smelters, fuel farm and Storage) and kinda causing alot of safety issues due to the wall jumping abilities...
