I went scouting yesterday and it turns out that the Bay12 village (Lothering) has quite a few neighbors down the river. Some 6-7 medium sized villages. :o

Is there any way to keep a moth alive longer? Should I keep it in my inventory so it doesn't age while I'm offline? And how long do I have before it dies? This is only the second moth I've ever seen and I've traveled quite a bit. :/

Moths are something you should look at as a leaf floating down the stream, collect one of each sex and soon you will be able to sprout a tree that will drop more and more...

Put a Male and a Female into a container (cupboard is best) and let them breed, they will lay eggs and then die, leave the eggs in a safe spot so that when you are able to you can start raising them, you will need a Mulberry tree mind you so to feed the worms...

Yes, but how long will this male survive without a female? I guess finding a female needs to be my top priority right now so I can start breeding and hold on to the eggs til I'm ready to work with silk.

EDIT: Crap, is the server down again? I have to go back to work in a couple hours and I probably won't get a chance to play again until tomorrow night. :(

They tend to survive about 24 hours (real time) and will die after that if they haven't mated. However I think if you drop and recatch it (be quick) then it resets the timer (but I've not tested this myself, just rumour)

Well crap, that's not very long! I guess I should have kept it in my inventory instead of leaving it in a container when I logged out... Or does that not matter?

...And now I can't seem to get back on to grab it. :(

Either in container or inventory the timer ticks down sorry. You have to be lucky really, sometimes you see two or three in a close area so that is when I generally start hunting them.

Chopped all the trees and turned them into buckets, and carved every stone within 3 screens into runestones.

Well, I got mauled by a bear. Leaving the boat for extended periods of time is dangerous.

Hey all, Shades pointed me to the thread to sign up for mining in in Bay12 Community :). Like a lovely chap he told me where to go and what to do, but I forgot the HS, all I remember is being told to find meatloaf. Would it be possible to PM me the HS and some instructions on how to get to the rest of you guys, As im having trouble figuring out the basics. Cheers

Just logged back in now that the server is up and I'm back from work. My moth is dead and I've been robbed of every single (low-level and pretty much useless, but difficult to acquire for me as a new player) item I have. One of my boulders was carved into a sign saying "It would appear I've robbed you. My house is to the SE, stop by sometime." Oh, and it would appear the person who has robbed me has lured a bear over to my small corner of the world (bordered by a swamp, a river, and some brush, and there is no quality *anything* nearby, so there's no reason to be here except to annoy me) and is currently fighting it from a boat just off the shore, right next to my fence.

So maybe it's worth traveling to find and join a Bay12 village after all.  I was attracted to this game when it was suggested that the world is mostly empty and as long as you're away from the big cities you might go days without seeing another person.  I guess that's all different now with the server wipe - everyone must be trying to get in on the beginning of the new world and there's no peace anywhere.  I'm wondering if I'd be happier just waiting a few weeks until most of the new players get bored or frustrated and quit, and maybe then I can find some peace.

I can't imagine the mindset of a person who thinks, "Hey, know what would be fun to do instead of going outside or making friends? To spend hours and hours on an imaginary world making my imaginary person strong enough to kill other imaginary people, and then just go around pissing off people who are enjoying the game!"  Anyone looking for proof that human nature is malicious and evil need only look at an MMO: when permanent consequences are nonexistent, the default attitude for people to take is to make other people as miserable as possible.
