looking through the changes hinted at by the devs here : http://www.havenandhearth.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=38489&sid=a4344b23106fd3f837a9f9f0490696c7

it seems that godlike characters with infinite stats and skills wont have infinite advantage over characters without these godlike stats.

Quote
We will, under all circumstances, most likely be working with relative improvements from stat gains, i.e....
Up to N points worth of difference (in everything useful, per some metric) will cause improvements to your combat results relative a player who has less than yourself, but improving beyond N implies no further gain.

if this is done well it sounds like a good thing to me, what inevitably caused me to stop playing every time I got into H&H was the stress I felt over 'falling behind' on some crazed nonstop grinding murder hobo somewhere. It sounds like in Hafen the consequences of falling behind wont be as dire as they were.

(also seeing as this could potentially already have been discussed in this thread I should note that I haven't really read anything in this thread :D)

edit:

This quote does have me a little worried :( It looks like we won't be able to spawn as a bay12 group if there is any desire to do so.

hum that is upsetting, though on the up side at least that also means that all the 'super massive powerful' factions won't be able to initially either.

But the main appeal to HnH to me was always playing with friends, but I guess it goes both ways.

I for one am excited about having such a big incentive to make massive road networks.

yeah the functional infrastructure part sounds pretty exciting.

its just a bit scary to start alone :P. I'm also not sure how having your character enter the world with a hearth secret breaks the reasoning behind having worthwhile roads though.

before it could be used as a cheap teleport if you destroyed your own hearthfire I think (I once tracked a duo of murderers who used this to get away from me while the ram dried, I then tracked their scent to their new village and filled them in on their new arrivals, a few days later their lawspeaker contacted me that they had started shit in the village, the village then destroyed their hearthfires and we were free to summon them into a basement and enact justice) (yeah Haven and hearth can be kinda cool :D)

but having said that It'd still think if you only get one spawn by hearth secret after character creation and then never again. would allow for both getting rid of the 'broken' teleportation stuff while still allowing groups to start together. But hey! its not my game, I'm still excited to see them do a second take on a lot of mechanics.

Yeah, it's not so much about people grouping up as it is about people making a shitton of alts (doing it for one character might be a bit tedious, but doing for a dozen will be terrible). Though it does encourage road development, which is a nice bonus.

When they switched from active experience (chop a tree, kill an animal, get exp) to passive experience (make a trinket, wait five hours, get exp) this game sunk faster than the titanic.

I haven't looked at it in like two years now. Have they gone back to active exp or is the game still poop?

Well I did see a few qoutes regarding the LP system, I doubt they'd go back to the old system rather than further developing the qurio system.

loftar and I have already discussed this at some length, and something to that effect will most likely be happening, yes.

The old system sort of promoted clear-cutting and making a lot of clogs though if I recall. I've always had more issue with the infinite grind to better quality and stats than the curio system to be honest. I've always seen the game as a rough gem. I'm just hopeful that them essentially building the game from the ground up a second time will allow them to refine some of those rough edges with things they've learned along the way.

so yeah I'm moderately excited and hopeful :)

Yep, the issue with the old LP system was that clearcutting forests and making millions of buckets was infinitely better LP then doing anything interesting.

Not to say there's not a better way to handle it then curio, but I think it's got potential at the heart of it.

and then there was that very short, horribly broken world where you could mine caves to get lp... and get 10's of millions of lp in a day

As for the starting apart but playing with friends, if the party system is still in and boats are still relatively easy to get, we can always meet up on the second or third day.  Which gives the added fun of everyone getting to explore somewheres around where we settle :D

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

Managed to get Ender working and have been playing for a few days. Man, old worlds are awesome as a solo player. So many big, abandoned plots. My first day of scavenging got me multiple metal plows, sausage grinders, all crop types, herb tables, and ready access to virtually every kind of industry building (smelters etc). Oh, and crates of metal ore. I accidentally made a frying pan with cast iron instead of tin, though. :( Damn you, inventory!

Since then my luck has only improved. I stumbled across a chest filled with seeds of quality varying from 200-500. I stashed it away and will probably never have enough stats to plant them without tanking their quality.

All that and I don't even have a claim. I've been gathering stuff at this old abandoned hut that nobody would look twice at. And if it happens to get looted... doesn't matter, there's so much free stuff lying around!

When you've gone through the 'normal' process of drying wild windsown seeds, making your own leather (etc) so many times in the past, it's such a nice change to just be a scavenger rifling through other people's decaying cupboards. Almost feels like I'm playing Fallout.

Sorry for the doublepost, but this is a different subject and an edit wouldn't bump the thread.

Does anyone use the map.jar thing? Has anyone discovered why it sometimes doesn't work for seemingly no reason? Like you click it, and it doesn't even attempt to scan the folders like it usually would, and then opens a blank window. I've had this happen twice now, and the first time, it seemed to magically fix itself after a few days. I've tried everything from editing currentsession.jar to point to a different folder, to outright deleting all of the map folders, but none of those attempts made the app start working again.

No idea, I always use the global map thingy (http://sabinati.com/HavenMap/). Hard to find yourself at first... but I can't live without it.

I wonder why I keep reading this. If I start playing again it will be totally your fault, people! XD
