I somehow think that'd just eventually reach the point where people buy a ton of alt accounts and exacerbate the situation.

Given how interested Jorb and Loftar have been in moderating their game and how sympathetic they've been to abuse in the past just tells me it would eventually spiral into pay to win in the most literal sense.

Salem is pretty much that. The game is still very, very far from being complete yet it already seems to be leaning towards pay 2 win.

There's a difference between paying for full featured access to a server and a F2P item shop - pay to win model. Free to play PVP with no restrictions seems as bad as any pay to win I've encountered. I met a person that dropped all pretenses and simply used a spreadsheet numbering system to track characters like veal calves in a stockyard meat factory. They had apparently spawned and curio stuffed at least 100+ combat alts (one character would die and within hours the next-numbered alt would be back, knocking at the front gate.)

There would certainly be a few people willing to blow $200 on a 12 month sub, but it wouldn't create a situation where people are swarming supergrids with bots.

And somehow here I am again. I stoped playing months ago. My place is still up, though someone destroyed the gate and most things are gone. I've found a stone nearby where a B12 player claims a kill. Not sure, but maybe the B12 village is near my place? O.o

There's a new Russian Village near, I'm a little bit scared. Might explore for a new area and start playing again... or die misserably.

What does this game have? Sigh...

I think we tried starting up a Salem town a few weeks ago, but the thread has seem to have died and there hasn't been update of their village. If you do want to join with them, PM Fikes. How is HnH like currently?

Well... it's playable. Lag is very acceptable right now. But the eternal issue of being scared of anything that moves is still there... :P

I might be up for another HnH village, if enough people were interested.

I don't want to derail the HnH thread, but since the salem village was mentioned...

So far I haven't run into the same paranoia I remember from HnH. It could just be luck but everyone I have run into so far has either traded with me or given me advice on keeping the town safe.

Salem seems to have a much better system for protecting your town than HnH did. AFAIK as long as we are active no one should be able to come in and mess up our town.

As Cheedows said, if you are interested in the salem town PM me, we could use more members.

You guys should post updates of the town more in the Salem thread, I would join it but I am terribly busy to put in the number of hours needed for these kinds of games. But posting and keeping it active might attract more people, and I still read them.  Any news of a new world for HnH anytime soon?

I don't really like Salem. I prefer the old style isometric game. Brings me good memories when I play. I think I will try to find a new spot for my hemit life because my area is pretty crowded. They raided me once (okay, I was inactive but... I'm scared).

Also I need to learn some things about combat, because I really don't have a clue... I also seriously need to learn more things about skills and studies... I'm such a newbie... :(

I don't think the world will restart soon... It's going to be 1 year old next month, I believe.

So... my trip so far:

I've moved to another location from my old site... Built a base, started to develop it... Some random guys appear and threaten me. I log off, come back, take my things and went back to my old place. Rebuilt it, gathered almost all the materials to build a brickwall... And some random guys appear and KILLED ME from outside my palisade with a single shot.

After that, they started bashing the palisade down.

So that's it. Haven deleted and never looking back. It's a shitty game where you can't trust anyone and where most people will just kill you in sight. If you like the wilderness thingy... try Wurm. Much more confortable to play and way better.

Yeah, I know... random rant here but... I'm really pissed off right now.

That's exactly the type of scenario turned me off from ever giving it a try. In a world where pricks dominate, I suffer especially bad and I especially get worked up when I feel slighted and also feel unable to take my vengeance.

I must admit I don't really care. Made another toon to spawn at my base and delete everything before they come to steal more... if they do. 2500 bricks dropped to the ground. So much work in this stupid game... At least I don't leave a half-completed brickwall behind.

Most harm was the loss of my keys inside my farming alt who never leaves the base. Not enough for safety. For anyone else playing... don't make that mistake: Keep the keys offline as much time as possible.

And Haven & Hearth... good riddance. I won't miss you. Not a tiny little bit.

And this is why a totally player driven game with no safezones of any description is not a good idea.
Even EVE kinda protects the newbies even tho they openly allow scamming and the newb protection is not 100% safe... but at least it makes griefing them costly.

If you go on the HnH forums, you'll see why their entire playerbase is based on the concept of griefing. I would generally recommend Wurm, new server apparently. Another HnH Bay12 village is sprouting up, might be worth it if they don't report screaming raiders soon.
